Fan squeal after car is shut off

Hi everyone,

I have a 2012 Mustang GT and I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar noise on their car. When I shut the car off and the cooling fan is spinning down and coming to a stop, as it comes to a stop it squeals a bit. It's not terribly loud, but is a bit annoying and makes the car sound like an old POS. I have an apt with the dealer tomorrow to have them look at it, but it doesn't make the noise all the time as it seems to be temperature related. I talked to the service manager and he's already leaning towards the "that's normal" stance, but he wants to hear it. I was just wondering if anyone else's does the same thing. Thanks

Kevin

I'll be doing that if the dealer doesn't want to do anything Although I shouldn't have to be using WD-40 on an electric fan that's a year old....

True, but its probably just an electric fan with dry bearings. Have you looked to see if it might be rubbing the shroud on some way?

You're right I'm pretty sure that's all it is. It doesn't appear to be rubbing the shroud at all. The problem is getting in there to get the WD-40 applied. I'm pretty sure I can get to it fairly well if I remove the air tube from the air box to the throttle body.

It's not "normal". I'd insist on a replacement, especially if it's still carying a warranty. You should be covered with both the 36/36, and then the 50K engine/drive train kicks in. I'd think the fan would fall under that as well?

Thanks Bucko, I'm going to doing that tomorrow, it's still WELL under the warranty, plus I have an extended. I would imagine the squeal will only get worse over time....

Agreed. Too nice of a car to squeak!
