Engine ticking noise after cam sensor replaced

I just had the cam sensor replaced after the engine light came on. Within a few days the car had sluggish acceleration and the engine light came on and it was the cam sensor again. Took the car in they said it needed a new updated tune and retired the car to me. I picked it up and drove away with no engine light and the power was back but it now makes a loud licking noise especially at 2-3k. I returned the car to the dealer and had them listen to it and they thought it might be an internal engine issue. They gave me a rental car and now I'm worried about my motor.
It is a 2011 gt with 59,000 miles and I have a extended warrenty.
Any ideas what it could be?????

Good thing you have the extended warranty!
It most certainly is an internal engine issue. Sounds like the cam and the rockers are maybe not aligned properly when they replaced the cam sensor.
Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

The dealer is tearing down the motor now to see what is causing the noise. 👎

I'm calling it.

CRANK SHAFT. I'm thinking they'll find damage on that. Probably due to balance issues.

Ford called back the motor is blown. Bottom end and top end is junk. WTF
They are recommending a replacing with a new long block.
Can a cam sensor cause that much damage? Did they misdiagnose issue and or install incorrectly?

What did they find was wrong? The "bottom end and top end is junk" is not specific enough to speculate on what the cause was.

On the plus side, you are getting a new engine, but the cause of the original failure would still be nice to know.

I hope they go with the long block and not a rebuild.
