Curb Rash on CS/GT Rims

So does the Tire Warranty cover this? I can't find anything that talks about it but the Ford guy that sold the warranty said it would but he is no longer with the dealership. Anybody know? Thanks

Depends on the warranty. You should have been given a copy of exactly what they cover and what they do not cover when you bought the warranty.

He's probably no longer with the dealership cuz he doesn't know what he's talking about.

The generic tire warranty that comes with the car definitely DOES NOT guard against curb rash. That's driver error. No default in the tire caused the rim to chafe its self...

Tire warranty is just that- for the tires. And it's not by Ford. It's by the tire manufacturer (Pirelli).

What he said, it's for the tires only not the actually rim. Sorry bro.

Now that we've established that the warranty doesn't cover something like this, how does one go about getting it fixed anyway? Is this something a tire shop can fix?

Not sure about fixing it, I'd just recommend finding a single rim on eBay, I had to do the same thing, 300 bucks later but it was a lot cheaper then a rim from ford.

You could also try a company like Alloy Wheel Repair. They come to you and fix on-site for a fraction of the cost of a new wheel. I've used them in the past with great results. Couldn't even tell.

What I did was did a Yelp search of decent tire places in your area, all that I called said it would be around 200-300 per wheel. I have 2 so I'm just saving up for some new rims.

A friend of mine scrapped the new rims on his Camaro, he took it to a body shop guy he knows and it came out looking brand new. I'm not sure what was done to fix it but don't worry about it, it is 100% fixable.

Does that cover cracking and dry rotting? My Pirelli's are bad like that on my stockers. I've owned the car 3 months since new and only had them on for 1k miles.

Yes you can go to a worth while custom's shop and/or possibly a tire/rim shop and have them fix this. typical cost is $100- 200 depending on severity. It wont look 100% but a healthy 95-98%. Which is worth it IMO.

Yes, I'd contact your service department and inform them of this, otherwise, I would think you can look up another authorized Pirelli dealer.

Cool thanks. It's not a big issue, I'm sure they'll last just as long. I just don't want one to give out cornering hard.

There was a warranty that they tried to sell me that was supposed to cover tire and rims fully for 2 years or something. Not sure if that's what you have or what all comes with that warranty seeing as I didn't purchase it.

I went with Alloy Wheel Repair to get my rim fixed. It came out perfect and I couldn't even tell there was any rash to begin with. Much cheaper than a new rim for sure!

Wheel damage is an insurance issue .. not a warranty issue.

As someone mentioned, this is an insurance issue not a warranty issue. A buddy of mine told me how he had to phrase it to get his insurance to cover this once before. You need to be careful about what you say, because otherwise they wont cover it. I think he said something like he had to swerve to avoid an object in the road causing him to hit a curb, and they agreed to cover it.
