Clicking Under Acceleration

Hey guys, I have a 2010 mustang gt meticulously maintained. Original mileage is 52K. I bought it with 42K in 2021 and it has run like a champ since I've had it. I have seemed to develop a clicking noise but only under acceleration. Even just when I pull into my driveway I can hear it ticking (as heard in the video link below). This issue only happens under acceleration and never at cold start, idle or idle revving. Only under acceleration and it's not all the time either.

Mods are roush cold air intake, 410 gears, high flow cats, x pipe and muffler deletes. Car is also Lito tuned but I switched back to stock tune after suspecting bad gas. Going back to stock did not fix it. I pulled all my spark plugs the other day thinking maybe spark knock but they all looked totally fine. I took off my cats and x pipe (welded together) and shook them around thinking maybe cat issues but dead silent and no clicks or sounds. I even blew compressed air into the cats and nothing at all. No CEL either...

No oil leaks and have always run Redline 5w20 full synthetic for past 10K miles (3 oil changes during that time). I also checked my exhaust for leaks and didn't find any. I also used a mechanic stethoscope on the heads, block, both manifolds and found nothing at idle or under idle revving. I also checked the oil pan and nothing sounds out of order. It's a manual trans but I have no idea what to do or where to check further. Any help or input would be highly appreciated. Here's the video of the sound...

Put Some Weight in the Car & See if it Is the Same. That Will Load Suspension. Warm Bodies Will Do! Just a Thought! Unless Tou have Had Car With Passengers and it is the Same??+

Thanks for your reply O5Stangkc. Yes it's the same with either just myself or with a passenger. My son heard it when we were on a drive and we tried to figure out what it was. I went for a solo drive and the sound is still there.

I Would Just To Be Sure Have a Fully Loaded Car. One Person May Not Be Enough To Make a Diff. More Weight Will Load Things & Change Positions of Driveline & Suspension. If You Can Narrow Down Things The Chase Gets More Focused. Have You Checked Driveline Itself? Also You Have Changed Gears the Axle Flange Could Be Suspect As Well! Something Just Not Tight Enough Will Creek Even Though During Inspection Seems Tight. Some Jackstangs and a Tightening Mission May Be the Way To Go!

I Have Heard Weird Noises From Rocks That Got in Behind Wheels & Caliper Pistons Etc. Even Tools Left in Tires! Just Examples of Weirdness! The Main Thing Going On is Twist in Your Clip and The Driveline Takes it all! Just Random Idea's! Driveshaft Carrier Bearings are Also Known to Creek! Also A Cracked or Worn Slip Yoke Can Creek. Driveshaft U-Joint.

Just Throwing Out Things You May Not Have Checked Yet! The Sound To Me Does Not Remind Me of any Engine Sounds I have Heard.

Thanks again! I'll check all those suggestions out and hopefully find the issue. That noise is driving me insane lol.

The Quest Goes On! I'm Currently Chasing a No Start on the Riding Lawnmower! It Has Safety Switches That I Keep Finding! I think Fabman Has Left the Building. The Site shows People Logged in Quite a Bit After They Have Left. I would Be Curious With All His Constant Racing Activities with A Much Modified 05 Mustang If He Has Heard Something Similar! Should Check out His Vids in the Motorsports Section! Pretty Cool Stuff!

Oh I Forgot I Checked For Any FORD TSB'S on Your Car and I could Not Find Anything Similar!

I’ll check his vids out and thanks for your input! I follow a couple autocross guys on YouTube running a 2010 mustang as well. Good luck on the no start issue. I’ve never had a riding lawnmower or I would offer some suggestions.

Got to Thinking!

You Need to Go To One of Those Auto Oil Changers or a Shop That Has a PIT So Someone Can Be Underneath To Look And Listen! Or, And You Would Have To Be Careful a Camera on the Ground and Drive Over a Few Times To get Some Vids!

Oh And The Lawnmower Was Just The Darn Starter Solonoid! Looks a Lot Like The Old 70's Ford Ones! Go Figure! Almost Put One of Those On!

Just a Thought!

Both good ideas and I'll try the camera one for sure. I'll see if the mechanic I somewhat use will be willing to try the pit idea and let me drive over it and see if he hears where it's coming from. Any way this could be spark knock? I have full power, clean and smooth acceleration and my plugs looks great. I assume it's therefore not spark knock... thoughts on that?

Also, glad you figured out the lawnmower issue lol. Nothing more satisfying than an easy fix.

Got Her Going Only to Find A Broken Blade Spindle! Parts on Order!

I Really Think Your Noise is Non Engine. It Sounds For Lack of a Better Word Structual. Reminds Me Of a Kids Home Swing Set From the 60's & 70'S That Twist Squeek You Got When The Bolts Started Loosening Up! And You Were Trying To Go To Darn High on the Thing and The Poles Were Coming Off the Ground!

Thank man, I’ve gone through the car and haven’t found anything that’s visible that is causing the noise. It very well could be something beginning to fail but I don’t believe it’s in the motor as you’ve mentioned. At least no worries there lol. I’m just going to call it good for now until whatever it is presents itself and I got to fix it. Other than that, the oil looks good, car runs like a champ and no other issues I can see or feel with the engine. I appreciate the help definitely.
