Boss 302 Oil Consumption Test

Well.... my car never used a drop of oil for the first 2000 miles. After the initial oil change it is now using 1 qt every 1000 miles on average. Car now has 6600 miles on it. I am working with my dealer on this but i think its BS. I am being asked to bring the car into them every 1000 miles for an oil check until Ford determines what they are going to do. Again, I think this is BS as well. The only other car I had that required me to check the oil this often was my 1972 Torino......

I can't speak for the Boss, but my 5.0 has never used a drop of oil in over 18,000 miles. I check the oil once a week, in the morning before I drive , and it has always been right on the full mark. I use Mobil 1, 5W-20, and the Motorcraft filter, which I change every 4- 5000 miles or when the car tells me I am at 50% life. I did leave the factory oil in for almost 3000 miles, and it also did not require any topping up.

Good luck with Ford, seems like they are dragging their feet on this with required dealer check ins. I have never heard of that before.

My '11 GT/CS used a quart or so prior to the first change at 5000 miles. That using occurred between 2000 and 5000 miles. Since then, no oil missing with changes at Ford every 5000 miles and 12,000 on the car. Check the oil weekly too.

Ford does not want me to add any oil myself, they want to document each drop. In addition they stated that adding an oil separator may help. How will that help?? The oil will still be used but will just end up in the canister right??

An oil separator may tell them where the oil is going.....

True. I told them I would give them another few thousand miles. If the consumption hasn't lessened or stopped.... the car will be gone.

My 2011 5.0 did the same thing for the first few thousand miles. I just changed my oil yesterday at 8k miles and from what ive read from other members with the same issue, the oil consumption stopped as they put more miles on the engine. Crossing my fingers

Good to hear!! Hopefully mine will stop as well. This issue is making me regret my decision not to buy the GT500 I had lined up when I heard the Boss was coming back. I'm hoping I don't regret that decision

I put on about 2,500 miles in the first 5 days I owned the car and used right at a quart. I check the oil every 1,000 miles and currently have 5,500 miles and have used maybe another 1/2 quart at most.

I have a 2012 Gt that is currently at the dealer for oil consumption. The first 4500 it was full everytime I checked the oil, the last 1500 its used 2 quarts. It does smoke at startup, so we will see what they say tomorrow.
