Blackberry texting SYNC issue -- JACLYN

Jaclyn / Deysha,
My 2012 Ford Mustang has the electronics package. I recently upgraded my Blackberry to a phone that has the MAP and should be able to have text messages read through the system. It doesn't work. Neither the Ford SYNC team nor Disney phone staff (it is a company phone) can answer why it won't work. Each one sends me back to the other. Here are my phone specs. Can you help me figure out how to make this work? I am hoping that I just need to unlock something in my phone. I hope you can help me. Disney paid $200 to upgrade my Blackberry specifically for this feature. John
Bold (9930),
v7.0.0.374, Platform
5.0.0.552

Hi, DrDisney -

Which BlackBerry are you using and who's the carrier? Also, is your Mustang equipped with a navigation system?

BTW, I'm your go-to girl for SYNC and navigation; Deysha takes care of everything else.

Jaclyn,It is the Bold 9930 and if you look at the original listing above it has all the specs for the phone below my name. It is serviced by Sprint. And yes I have the navigation system, the full electronics package. I know the Ford SYNC site doesn't list this phone with Sprint as tested by Ford but it does show the same phone with Verizon (I think) as being tested. Ford SYNC told me that my phone simply needed to have MAP to work. My phone does have MAP. I am hoping that someone can help figure out how to make this work. Thanks for your help. John

Sorry for the delay in my response, John. I was out of the office on business yesterday. We tested the BlackBerry Bold on the AT&T network with firmware v7.0.0440. Do you know which version your running?

I'd like you to confirm that your MAP profile is set to ON. To do so, press the PHONE button and go thru the following: SETTINGS > ADVANCED > MAP PROFILE ON/OFF

Let me know what you find.

Jaclyn,My phone doesnt have a single MAP ON/OFF button but rather you turn on each component. Email address, SMS/MMS, new message notification, message download timeout, HTML email. Each one is checked as "on" except the HTML which is set to automatic.
I talked with the Disney Sprint rep today and they said this 9930 Blackberry has the same MAP as the 9350 which Ford states will work. It doesn't make any sense.

Any ideas?

Hi, Subiaur -

This is a known concern with software level 4.1.3. Our engineers are working on a fix, but I don't have an ETA. Stay tuned to our owner forum for announcements:

Sorry for any confusion, the steps I provided were to be performed on the SYNC system itself, not your phone. Once you press the PHONE button on the radio display, go thru the following: SETTINGS > ADVANCED > MAP PROFILE ON/OFF

Let me know if you're able to find this!

Jaclyn,
YES! I found it.... and it works great! I hadn't seen that on/off switch before and no one else at Ford SYNC had suggested it either. Hearing that text come through the voice activation was amazing! I can't believe it was this easy to solve and I almost gave up.
Thanks so much!

Jaclyn,A new question. When I respond back to my wife's iPhone with the preset text, she gets my message but under the message is this wording:

This message was sent from my Ford ??yFord??soling her when you get home.????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????

This is bizzare. And the actual "?'s" are upside down. Do you know what is causing this?

Thanks,

John

Wow, that's strange. Have you tried text messaging anyone else to see if this can be replicated? I recommend removing the battery from your BlackBerry for about 30 seconds, this will reset the Bluetooth chip within the phone. Let me know what happens.

It changed slightly when I took the battery out reset. It now just has the upside down ??????????? for several lines. And it shows up like this on several phones. Also, on a different point, I'm not getting the text message updates from the SYNC site, such as traffic reports tha I have set up for on the SYNC web site.

I did a Google search on this and found it to be a popular topic of conversation. Many BlackBerry users are experiencing this, some say the battery pull helped. If this persists, I recommend contacting your wireless provider.

In regards to traffic alerts, PM me your VIN and cell phone number so I can look into it.

Awesome, DrDisney, I'll take a look when I return from lunch.

Hi, mburnette -

In order for a phone to be compatible with the text messaging feature, it must support Message Access Profile (MAP). This is a Bluetooth standard developed for the exchange of text messages. The iPhone doesn't currently have MAP, but my fingers are crossed this will change with the upcoming iOS 6 update. Stay tuned for future announcements:
