automatic transmission

my 2012 pony package automatic transmission. my wife has complained in the past that the transmission has gone out of gear into neutral at low speeds.
i discovered the other day while driving the car, while gearing the shifter down to 3rd and starting out from a dead stop the transmission wanted to pull out in 3rd, instead of starting in 1st, to 2nd and then 3rd.
so i tried in 2nd gear and it wanted to pull out in second gear instead of 1st and shifting to 2nd.
the mustang has 34,000 miles on it.
anybody had any problems like this? i am heading to the ford shop tomorrow for air bag recall.

I know on the 2013-14's, if you are shifting manually, it will start out in 1, 2, or 3. If you stop in a gear higher than 3, it will downshift to 3. Not sure how the 2012's behave since they do not have Selectshift.

Something is wrong if the transmission is kicking into neutral on its own. The other things are normal. Starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear is for, if you were in snow or other low traction situations. I think its a pretty cool feature

Same issue here. Been doing it on and off for weeks. First trip into Ford they claimed they couldn’t reproduce. I think it’s an issue with the output speed sensor although there is a recall (16s19) for some 11 and 12 mustangs which includes my build date even though somehow my stang isn’t included that sounds like a fix for our problem. Lots of F-150 videos out there showing the same issue. They have 6r80 autos too. My car is at the dealer again now.
