5th Gear Grumble

Hey, everyone. Quick question I have a 2014 GT with 3.73 with the MT-82 tranny and I was going across town the other day and my tranny kind of ground/grumbled when I shifted from fourth to fifth. I tried this again but a softer shift and nothing but when I shifted hard it ground again. My car was a little cold. Could this be the problem? This has never happened to me before. Would a short throw shifter like MGW or a Barton help? The only mods I have are Roush ABs and a JLT oil separator. My car only has 1400 miles so I'm really concerned about this. Any help you guys can offer would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Ii have a 2014 same as yours and I sometimes notice unusual feels when shifting to 3rd and 5th, especially now that the weather is cooling down. A slight stumble like feel but never any noise (grinding) associated with it. Everything I have read says the MT82 is finicky. I have the original shifter as well, but I don't see how an aftermarket shift linkage would change the feel of what is going on inside the gear box. I would think a short throw shifter would only make it feel worse....not sure.

That's what I was wondering it it's a problem with my tranny or maybe a bracket on the shifter. I've read a couple places that the Barton 2-post bracket has helped with some things like that but I'm not sure.

Hey man, that's great info on the MGW I think I'm sold on it. The only thing that's holding me back is the Barton is 10% shorter, I think too short could be a problem though. It doesn't explain if my problem is from the tranny or syncro's or something of the sort, or if it's the stock junk shifter that's the problem.

Thank you sir.
Do your own research, but some people that have gone with the Barton, say if they had to do it over again, they'd go with the MGW.
Mine is on order and awaiting delivery along with a GHIG Roush shifter ball.
