2014 V6 Auto not shifting to 6th automatically in Sport Mode

I was on the freeway today doing between 60 and 65 and had the gear selector in S but had not invoked SelectShift. I noticed that the RPMs were higher than expected, so I moved the gear selector to D and the revs dropped. It was obviously not shifting up into 6th in Sport mode. I moved the gear selector back to S and the revs went back up, so I used the SelectShift button and upshifted into 6th manually with no problem.

I read the user manual and could not find anything that indicated that it won't upshift automatically into 6th in Sport mode, so I called my dealership and spoke to a service rep. His response was that it was behaving normally and would not shift into 6th automatically in Sport mode.

So my question is, can anyone confirm that their 2014 V6 automatic behaves the same way?

Keeps the revs higher so once you press the gas it has access to more of the powerband and accelerates quicker. It's normal

lol, that's why it's select-shift mode. Keeping more revs/power available to you at all time. you have to manually choose gears. even overdrive. probably just how they programmed it when you aren't selecting gears with the + and -

there's no overdrive in Sport-Mode

edit: also some ppl are still confusing sport-mode with select shift-mode, the 13's have both.

Sport-mode is fully automatic, gears 1-5 only, much more aggressive up/down shift points.
(this is the best mode for the track or if you wanna have a lot of fun in your neighborhood going to pick up chinese food)

Select shift-mode.. manually select gears 1-6

Thanks for the confirmations. I would have expected to see something in the user manual that points out that issue, but there is nothing there. I had been thinking of SelectShift mode as being simply Sport mode with the driver controlling the up and down shifts, but it appears it is separate programming. It's a great gear box and I am really enjoying it. Now I understand it a little better.

Yep, had my 2014 Auto for just a week and was wondering why when I moved the shifter into what I thought was 'S' for 'Select Shift', that I had to press the +/- button to have it display a gear number, never realizing that it first goes into 'S' for Sport Mode.

In other words, what you guys are saying, the 2013/14 Auto's actually have 3-modes:

D - Full Auto Shift
S - Sport Shift
- or -
S - Select Shift after you press +/- on the thumb control

Now that I 'think' I understand how this works, I must do some experimenting.

More precisely:

D - Full Auto Shift - gears 1 through 6
S - Sport Shift - gears 1 through 5 but not 6
- or -
S - Select Shift after you press +/- on the thumb control - gears 1 through 6

Note to Deysha - the owner's manual does not have to be as many pages as the Obamacare bill to include important details like this. It would be great if you could pass along info like this.

Maybe it's a 2013 thing but my manual gave me this information. Maybe there was something dropped from the 2014 printing

Jim - Where in your manual did it tell you that Sport mode was limited to gears 1 through 5? I'd like to try to find the same section in my 2014 manual. I looked in the section on the transmission and it doesn't spell that out - at least I could not find it.

Well now, you learn something new every day. When I get a little frisky with our GT there's a loud whine inside the car. Of course, I just tell her to calm down, the car needs to stretch it's legs from time to time.

I'll have to look it up tomorrow and see. I can't remember now, just recall that I read it when I got the car.

That would be nice, tukatz. I know we have some videos on the Ford Owner site. Those may help some as well.
