2014 GT with Battery Post Corrosion All Over

This car was bought in October of 2013 so is just a year old, and wouldn't start the other day. The battery positive post was filled with corrosion. I cleaned it off and the car starts fine, but someone mentioned that something had to be wrong with the battery for it to do this this soon.

Should this go into service or is this common?

Thanks
Tom
