2013 GT with problems
I took delivery of a 2013 GT Premium over the weekend. Everything looked fine with the vehicle. A few days later I notice the stitching on my Recaro seat lettering is coming out. I get Fords approval to warranty my seat. Anyways I let it go and realize a 2nd problem Rail Dust! I have what appears to be dust in the clear or rail dust. There's 5+ specks on my back bumper and a few near my spoiler Suggestions for the paint defect? One dealer claims it needs to be repainted. Another claims a color sand and buff would take it out. I'm worried as I don't want to mess up factory paint.

Ill have to give the clay a try. The dust has formed tiny crater looking dimples in the clear. The dealer says they can warranty it however messing with factory paint has me worried.

i dont know how far you are from the SF Valley, but there is a place in Agoura Hills that does all high line stuff .. Maz/Ferr/Lambo all day long.
their detailers should be able to tell if its correctable or not. If not then you will have to go with the refinish and paint.
place is called Lavaggio (a spin on Bellagio Casino)
cheers

No way in hell I'd take a brand new car that had been repainted, especially painted at a dealership. If it couldn't be corrected without being painted, I'd be pushing for a buyback.

It will never be the same. Might as well have been in a fender bender and repainted.
I wish you would have discovered this before delivery. It's so important to really look these cars over.

+1 ... As excited as I am to get my car I would rather make sure it is perfect than get one with something like this in it.

this would not be a buyback situation... it would have to be an "unwind" or a "trade assist". either way a factory rep is going to have to authorize the repair/or whatever they determine as appropriate action. -- best to keep low key and point out the problem and the close proximity of purchase. let them know that you would want to unwind the deal or accept a trade assist at the purchase price of the car as you paid for it and reorder the car as you like it.
at that time they can do the paint repairs to correct the issue, and resale the car to a subsequent owner with a damage disclaimer attached. Then the next guy who get the car will have to be apprised of the repairs before signing any contracts.
I would still get a second opinion, it only bolsters your case... rather than relying on one source of judgement -- or if you're close to the SGV I can recommend a paint shop that will look at for you and tell you if the stuff is embedded in the clear coat and not correctable with out painting.

Now I believe people are being a little to ****..
Just paint or paint correction is no where near having a fender bender. What part of the car wont be the same.. its only a cosmetic problem and in no way will have the car look or drive like it was previously wrecked. Having body work (ie replaced panels and frame work done) or suspension replaced from an accident is more "wont be the same". You guys are making it out to be a completely rebuild car because of purely cosmetic issues.

If he was trying to sell it 2 years from now and it was exactly what I had been looking for, I'd walk away from it when I found out it had been painted. Too many questions that would bother me, it would always be in the back of my mind.
Call me **** if you like, I may be. I sold a brand new GT/CS with about 1500 or so miles on it because the rear bumper had to be replaced and they painted on it all the way up the quarter panels trying to blend it and it never quite matched to my eye and I was afraid of how it would look years down the road compared to the rest of the car.

But wouldn't the rail dust be in the clearcoat and not the paint? A top body shop should be able to re-shoot clearcoat after removing the dust without any issues. IMO (paid by warranty of course)

i think everyones' response are our clear distrust of body shop and shoddy work, but it's somewhat unjustified in general.
I had a Alpine White BMW 335i Coupe and some jerk cut me off and scuffed my rear bumper cover. If you know anything about color matching white is one of the hardest to do right.
I sent my car over to a place in San Gabriel that had a top notch reputation, they performed all the repairs for our dealership for 15 or so years. When I picked up the car I couldn't tell if the bumper had ever been scuffed. They did a awesome job, as they done on all the cars we sent them.
A year or so later I had my car in for a recall, and one of the lot attendants tagged our automatic gate, putting a foot long semi can opener scratch on the left rear quarter panel. the shop picked up the repair and it was an OK job, but this time it was done by another body shop...
sad to say when I turned it in off lease i was asked if there was any damage to the left quarter, and I said yes -- they do a paint thickness test and the LRQ didn't measure out. Good thing it was paid for by the dealer, sourced out to their choice of repair facilities... or I would be paying for a LRQ out of pocket -- but the kicker is that no one said a word about the rear bumper cover that was refinished ... hmmm... good work vs. bad work ??
This shows there is a large disparity between body shops in terms of their standards and QC. I thinks this is what makes people a little **** at times

that confirmed only a repaint can fix the damage. I've contacted customer
relations regarding the issue. A request for possible buyback was sent out to
see if it qualifies under lemon law. Now I have to wait for a follow up.

Ok so I have an update on the issue. I took my car to a very reputable detailer
that confirmed only a repaint can fix the damage. I've contacted customer
relations regarding the issue. A request for possible buyback was sent out to
see if it qualifies under lemon law. Now I have to wait for a follow up.
