2013 Boss leaking master cylinder and paint damage

Well, this is the second Ford I have had where I have found brake fluid gathering around the cap and resting in the seam on the exterior of the brake fluid resevoir. On my last car they never did find the problem and they replaced the master twice.

Unfortunately, brake fluid is corrosive and I now have paint bubling up in the engine compartment. Not what you want to see on a car with 500 miles on it. There is also a large paint defect on the exterior but I'm not going to have anyone touch that. Jsut want it noted in case it ever peels but that is not realted to this situation.

The good news is that my dealer handled this type of thing with no questions asked and he will paint as needed. Also, I am glad this is an interior situation and not on the exterior paint. I'm not quite sure how well the bodyshop handles this kind of damage but we shall see. Frankly the area is not clearcoated so it really jsut needs to be sprayed correctly.

Bummer. I had a 2006 Mustang that had the same issue with brake fluid and paint. Not an issue that I saw on my 2010 or 2012 yet.

I got my "sympathy" post and I appreciate it
I feel a little better.
Really, there is not much to do about it other than let the dealer fix it. I can wring my hands and worry about resale that might be a decade away or I can just enjoy the car. Again, this is in the engine bay and not outside.
This one stings a bit because there is really no reason for it and its not lke a broken part that can just be replaced. That being said, other that my wife's BMW and the 2006 Dodge charger I had, every new car i have ever bought had some degree of a problem that was manageable. Some worse than others. Now that I think about it, three of them were Fords Two had huge water leaks and one had this very same master cylnder issue.

Lol. No problem on sympathy. Too bad Ford doesn't use synthetic on the Bosses and you wouldn't have an issue.

I was wondering why they dont. Is it a cost issue or lower boiling point or something else?

My reservoir has fluid around it as well. Not sure why. I always wipe it off after I drive it home

No doubt it's about the money.

I can't believe Ford still hasn't resolved the problem that started on the 05's.

I keep my fluid level at the Min mark of the resevoir. I think it's helped a bit. I still get slight dampness but around the cap but not wet.

I have 2013 Boss 302 and was shocked this weekend to see paint bubbling up under my master cylinder. Now I see others have had same problem. I am sick about it. Paint completely gone to bare metal. Anyone with the problem get the interior panel painted? If so are you happy with the result? Plan to head to the dealer this week to address it. I hope they do not give me any issue about it. Clearly leaking around the reservoir
and seam and cap.

Does this mean the GT's (with Brembo or Track Pack) use synthetic brake fluid?

From what I have read all brake fluids are synthetic, do you mean a different kind? Say DOT 4 instead of DOT 3?

Hey Boss007,

Make an appointment with your dealer, and let me escalate this to the customer service manager for your area. Please, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

I was told by a friend that they make guards or something similar to head bands that soak up the excess fluid so it doesn't eat your paint, does anyone have one or know where they can be had?

this was a common problem back in 2005 and 2006. Caused by fluid being overfilled at factory.

Same problem here on my '13 Boss, so I removed some fluid from m/cyl, to about 1/4'' below full line. No more leaks.
