2012 battery issue

So I took my car in about two or so weeks ago for some little things. Nothing really big. Stuff like rattles, passenger side noise, sync, brake squeal, fluid switch for the tranny and other first time check up.

I get the car back after two days and they fixed most things. They changed a A arm assembly that fixed the sounds fron the front. They gave sync a tune up. They fixed a rattle. Said they couldnt do anything about the brakes. Changed the tranny fluid.

I noticed a few days ago my battery is corroding like crazy on the postive pole. It ate some of the plast on my motor cover. So I call my service guy and he says bring it in. I come by but cannot leave it since I was drive my preggo niece around. This was last night (friday). I show one of the service guys the problem and tell them it started after I had brought the car into the dealer for service last time. The guy says it will cost me $29.99 to have them clean the corroding pole. I said thats not right. This is a new car and I bought it here and that it started after I had brought it in. The guy said he would speak with the service manager and soon returned with him. He said the same thing "this is a environmental issue" and something along the lines of a maintenance issue. I bought this car four months ago. He went and checked his computer and then came back and said it would be free since they did not see it last service(the first). I let him know my sync couldnt hear anything and thats new since it worked when I dropped it off. The manager kept telling me "this looks like a months worth of corrosion. They could not offer me a rental they said because ford would not cover it.

I dropped the car off early this morning. I got a call later on asking what kinda of phone I use and what service it is and how long I have had it. They then asked me if I had a ipod hooked up to the car. They told me that Ipods freeze sync and that ford is working on a update but it needs the update to work.

Believe it or not. Really hot close to boiling water will melt that corrosion away like nothing else. Cold or warm water won't affect it at all. Really hot water will make it completely disappear.

I would use a shop vac instead of washing all that corrosive all over/below battery area.

Do you know why they wouldn't fix the brake noise? And was it the front or rear brakes or both?

Pretty close, usually corrosion like that is cause by a leak around the post. Most likely the the plastic around the post is leaking or the seal is bad causing that corrosion.

That is what im thinking. It all started after my car when in for service. I am thinking who ever was working on sync and whatever else disconnected the battery and maybe the post was tighened to hard or something.

They said they cannot do anything about my plastic engine cover.

You can use Baking Soda, mixed with water to neutralize the acid and prevent damage to more of the engine bay. Be sure and check under the battery, and clean that area if you have not already done so. The baking soda will not damage the paint, but the coke could.

As far as the battery is concerned, it is covered by the new vehicle warranty, and they should simply put a new one in, especially if there is a sign of leakage. If the engine cover was damaged by the leak, it should also be replaced under warranty.

Contact Deysha, the Ford Customer Service Rep on the forum and ask her to contact the dealer. And, then find another dealer.

they are working on it and they said they would check for a leak. They are cleaning the battery for free after I talk for a while with the manager. I rather just buy a new optima battery.

Ford oem battery's suck when it comes to corrosion.. you have no idea the amounts of battery services I have done. I would switch to a motorcraft battery (they are different batteries with different warranties). They don't leak near as much as a factory battery does.

yeah I know. I just extra worked up about it because I bought a new infinity kappas for the front and rear and a pair for 12s for the trunk. Instead of installing them I had to wait for my car to go to the dealer. Now its still not done. It just seems like a silly reason not to have your car.
