2012 with 2nd gear issue

Anyone having issues with shifting their 2012 into 2nd gear? Mine seems to do it when it is cold for the first 15mins. No TSB yet. My dealer couldn't find anything. Built 1/12

Definitely seems to be an issue with the stock fluid choice. If I understand you correctly your car is a pain to get into 2nd gear till warm. A different fill may alleviate your concerns. I use Redline MTL which helps the tranny warm up faster but still sometimes has a crunchy engagement for the first 2 shifts. I try to shift at low rpm or double clutch the first few cycles till warm and then all is smooth. Just nature of the beast for me. Clunks once and then is perfectly smooth following that. I'm planning on adding the MGW shifter assembly to add some more positive feedback when shifting.

Hi 12cali,

Please make another appointment with your Ford dealer and PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the Customer Service Manager for your area.

TSB solved 90% of my issues. I'd do it soon - you'll be much happier!

No, and that's the problem I ran into with my 2012 built in September. In theory all of the TSB fixes were applied during manufacturing starting in September 2011, so when my car had trouble getting into 2nd gear the dealership didn't want to even try a fluid swap because it wasn't covered under warranty. The theory was that the new fluid was already in it.

After a HUGE fiasco that I would rather not get into, the dealerhsip finally replaced the fluid and it did fix my problem getting into 2nd gear.

Changing the fluid may fix your problem, but getting the dealership to do it for free may be next to impossible because Ford will not reimburse them for it.
