Upgraded track seat for my GT

So I track my 2011 GT a few times per year. First time was March 2012, bone stock, and I loved it. Now that I had my 'baseline', I added some mods for mild track duty - nothing extreme...wheels/tires, suspension, brakes. Car got quick around the racetrack, and, as a result, my stock leather seats would not hold me in place. Mine is a GT Premium, and the seats are leather, power, heated, and I love them. But they flat out suck on the racetrack. Problem was, since I love the comfort of the seats, I needed a temporary track-day-only solution, and not too $$. Here's what I did. I purchased a stock OEM FoMoCo driver's side seat track assembly (manual) from a junkyard, $100 (including OEM seatbelt receiver and electrical sensor connection). Then I ordered a fixed-back NRG fiberglass racing seat from my local speed shop, $230. Then the speed shop arranged for a local welding guy to mount the seat to the track, $65. The result? Four bolts out for my stock leather seat, unsnap the electrical connection underneath, four bolts in for my racing seat, re-snap the electrical connection. Easy, quick, safe, and amazing difference on the track. Reverse procedure when I get home and my original and comfortable leather seat is back in for daily driving. I hope this helps others looking for a similar solution. (In the picture, the white stuff on the seat rail is grease, in case you are wondering!)

Thanks, Rich. Changes the entire dynamic on the race track...and no more bruised left side from smashing into the door!

Does the airbag light go off since you don't have an airbag in the seat, thus disabling the whole airbag system. Been looking for a fix for this, never found one.

Ricky - yes, very astute of you, with my set-up, the airbag light is displayed in the dash, I managed the seat belt, but I could not find a reasonable solution for the airbag. If you have any ideas please share!

Doug - you saw that?! Yeah - that was the first run of the day, about 40 degrees, so the first laps I had little grip. Still fun!

Great, Tony. Get that pony out and enjoy. My next track day is May 5, excited to stay gripped in this racing seat. I'll post video after.

The pony has been out all winter. The tires work pretty good in light snow :-) It's my transportation!
