Upgrade 2013 shaker 500 front speakers
I traded in an Acura with an amazing sound system for a 2013 GT with the shaker 500. Car is awesome, stereo, less than impressed. Completely muddy, etc. From other forums, it looks like replacing the front speakers will help quite a bit. I went with the Pioneers that are recommended and bought the 2010-12 speaker spacer that people said I needed. (2013 shaker speaker is different from the 2010-12) Going to pick up the metro harness at BB today.
Am I missing anything?

I'm not a huge sound guru, but I do know when a system sounds good. The mustang is not built for the sound system but....
I bought these speakers from Sonic electronic 70.00
Pioneer TS-D6802R
and the ford spacers: 24.00 for left and right

Just an update, got the speakers and brackets in. Took around an hour for both doors. That youtube video on how to get the door off helped a ton. Sound is completely different now. More crisp highs and miss, etc. Gonna leave the rears alone for now because of the PITA I have read about,.....unless I get bored.

The rear is not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. The lower seat cushion just releases from the bottom front of it. Yank that out, and the sail panels are just a bit of a hassle to get out. Once you get those out, the rear deck carpet comes out easy, and then it's just a matter of bolting the new speakers up and plugging them in with the harness adapters. I think the whole process took me about an hour.

Thanks for the info. Any areas that are tricking that you can damage (besides the rear defroster) when removing? From what I read, you can take out the bottom seat and then one side of trim, including the door sill plate, rear seat side trim, etc. What did you do?

It would be pretty hard to damage the defroster unless you really slammed a ratchet or something into the glass. Just be careful, and you'll be fine. As far as the sill plate, you don't have to completely remove it, but it makes it a lot easier to get the B pillar trim off. There is double stick foam on the sill that you'll have to tear, but it stays fine without it. I only took one side of the pillar trim off completely. The other side I just moved back a little.
