thinking about painting interior accents
Been tossing around the idea of either painting or wrapping some pieces inside the car, mainly the radio surround and the piece that goes around the shifter/ebrake. Wish i had a picture but the passenger side dash has a stamp/cutout of a line that goes across and says mustang.
the color i would love to do for the interior is sublime green.
Since i already have kinda a 2 tone theme going on the outside would it be that tacky to go with a different color on the inside?
The outside is Matte black on black.

Anyone ever hear of custom colored vinyl sheets? Cause it would be better to do some of the interior stuff in a wrap than painting. The reason i want to paint is some of the stuff can't be wrapped and i would like to possibly do some engine stuff in the sublime green as well.

I painted some stuff on my 2002 Mustang. I was worried it was going to tacky but it came out looking amazing, always got compliments on it. It's your car, do what you would like, and post pics if you do it!

I say definitely do it, if I'm thinking of most stock mustang interiors... The reason you'll be so happy with this mod is bc you see it every time you're in your car. And they have some amazing wraps that guys on here have done. Carbon fiber would nice with your black car, then you could tie that into your theme. Jmo!

I'm going to get daring and do my door inserts with Ultra Suede and a new shift boot. I was thinking about doing the wrap thing since it's way more accessible now. They sell the 3M stuff at my Wally World. The only think that I don't know about is the passenger side were you mentioned the lettering and line. That's where the airbag is.

I thought a lot about doing it with my car, and I looked at dash kits, wrapping, etc. As far as painting goes, I was a little concerned about durability on some parts that would get a lot of handling. In the end, I bought a stainless steel face for the radio surround piece and left it at that, for the moment.

OP as others have said, you should do what you feel you'd like. As long as you're happy with the interior, a personalized touch can only add to the experience and joy you get while being in your car! Good luck and post pics.

Ok - link to a link.... carbon fiber "look" by JLT actually looked pretty cool.... and it looks like taking all of this apart was fairly simple. Thanks for posting all of this, I am considering a change now when I was worried about breaking pins before...

I did mine with 3M Di Noc gloss black on the OEM dark plastic bits ( cup holder cover, storage bin cover, door switches) and Graphite elsewhere. Pretty happy with the overall result. May go for the radio display chrome surround later.

I painted my interior trim although it is very subtle (slightly lighter and stock) because I wanted all the panels to match. I have a base car so I put a dash kit to do brushed aluminum which came out really good (I like it better than the flat premium trim). I did the flat door panels and rear speaker surrounds in the same color, as well the center portion of the the e brake. It is all prep and despite the fact that the e brake is rubber, it is still good after over a year and a half of daily use

What you did with yours - matching the radio surround and console to the V6 Premium aluminum dash - is exactly what I was planning to do just before I decided on the steel. Yours looks really great, and I may still do it at some point, especially now that I see how well it works.
