Shift Ball Adaptor size?

I'm thinking about ordering a shift ball but I'm not sure which adaptor size I should order. Does anyone know? Also, do I need a boot retainer? My shifter is stock

Here's what I'm thinking about getting;

M12 x 1.25 is the factory thread pattern.

Narrow or Wide boot ($22 WTF?)? Are there cheaper alternatives? I particularly like that this one matches my stripe pattern.

Yup, cheaper alternatives, just can't remember the name of the company making the less expensive striped ball.

You should have the boot that takes the adapter with the larger base, the small base adapter is for the GT's with the upgraded interior package with the oem metal ball.

It's actually more expensive for the ball I want there. Rally stripe II, Grabber Blue with Mustang logo

I just ordered this one the other day from CJ Pony Parts. I compared their shift ***** with similar ones from SpeedDawg and EPCO, and ended up going with CJ's because it didn't need any special thread adapter for a stock shifter. The ***** look to be of similar quality among the three vendors though, from what I can see in the photos, so I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

My Speeddawg shifter came in an EPCO bag...no adapter was needed as it came with the proper thread size as listed above. The shift boot retainer acts as a jam nut and is worth the 20 plus bucks to bring it all together.

It was spendy, but is much dressier than the stock ****.

That's good to know for future reference. I got a call that mine has been backordered for a week or so--no big deal. Yours is very similar to the one I ordered, except that I got white stripes.

So how does it feel in your hand, compared to the stock ****?

As you shop for these, the array of logo/color/stripe options are dizzying. I wasn't surprised when Speeddawg told me that a black **** with grabber blue double stripe, running pony logo, reverse up and left and 2014 Ford thread wasn't in stock. My custom order took a bit over two weeks to arrive and was worth the wait.

I prefer the shape and feel of the ball to the stock shifter which never felt comfortable in my hand.

Cool, I ordered mine mainly for the looks, but am looking forward to seeing how it will feel. I just got bored with the stock ****.

Did you order the wide or narrow shift boot?

The wide boot retainer is the correct option. I chose the glossy black finish.

Here's a shot from the side. The camera flash washes out the color of the running pony, but you can see the fitment of the boot retainer.

Yep, I got it a couple of weeks ago. It's really nice! The one thing I've noticed about it is that it is rather "sticky" in my hand, compared to the stock ****, due I guess to the increased amount of surface area that contacts my palm. It really does look cool, in any case.

I appreciate all of the exterior mods but this is one for me to appreciate from the view that I have most often with my car.
