Plug and Play

It appears as if certain features that are available in upgraded packages are just a part and plug and play away from the base models. For example I have read that if you buy the switch that has auto lights as on option, part number SW6659, the base model is completely set for auto lights. I have read different things about mycolor and the dash gauges. One guy said all the wiring for the ambient lighting is there because he saw some under his cup holders. I have not looked into this too much and am wondering what others have heard and personally/successfully done. I am highly interested in cheap upgrades to features like auto lights and mycolor.

Also if there are plug and play features for other things I have not mentioned please mention them so that we can all know and benefit.

SN-95's were all max wired, all you had to was buy the parts and put them in. I don't know about S-197's, but it makes sense that the wires are there, may be not for the Nav, but for mostly everything else. My question would be how much can you buy at the Ford parts counter and stay under the cost of buying the premium to start with? I guess that if you bought off the lot and couldn't get what you really wanted, or only want some of the features it could work out.
I haven't had mine apart, and it is a premium, so no help there. Someone has had to make a Stripped out Racer out of a new Stang and might know.
Good luck, enjoy the modding.

Back when the S197 models started they all had the wiring for everything, but after a while (I don't recall when exactly, but a couple years tops) they started only putting the wiring in if it had that option. I'm not sure how they're doing it now, but the easiest way to check is just pop the pieces out and see if the wiring is behind it.

I don't plan on making to many mods to it but what ones would be easiest. I bought the parts for the auto lights and will try it this weekend. The mycolor doesn't seem worth it. What else is there to try? The leather upgrade is completely different from this. What options does my base have that may or may not be plug and play? I can't think of any off the top of my head right now?

The new switch for the auto headlights is great and in my opinion a must for any base model without auto headlights.

If you upgrade to a premium steering wheel I have heard there is no way to get the radio controls to work? Is that true?

I think it is available in one of the upgrades. I'm thinking the comfort package. However, I do not know if it is plug and play. If anyone knows please post it here.

Doubt it. The seats are different since they have the heating elements in them. Just adding the switches won't do much.

I was thinking along the lines of potential plug and play for dual climate control not heated seats

The dual auto climate control is a part of the electronics package I believe, the comfort package is heated seats and electric passenger seat.
