Leather, Really????

Snagged a set of "new take off learher seat covers" from Speedlabs LLC on ebay for $200, and was real proud, but when we unpacked and installed them, we discovered they aren't really leather, but a really good vinyl. They look and feel the same as all the other covers from Roush, OEMPARTS and all the rest, and look the same as the ones I looked at on the dealers lot. Can any of you more knowledgeable members out there expound on this a bit? Thanks for listening.

Yeah, I know, but I guess my question should have been " do the cheaper version stangs have this leather look vinyl seating from factory? This stuff looks identical to some of other guys pix that were posted here. Mine was a cheapo rental out of Florida, that I purchased used. My 03 has seating surface leather from factory. Thanks.

I reupholstered my Morgan with a high quality vinyl with a cotton backing. It just about took an expert to tell it wasn't leather.

I checked back on all these sellers thru their ebay history, and they have sold a ton of these covers from anywhere from $550 on down, advertised as "leather oem takeoffs", and I've seen a bunch on here after installation, and like mine, they all look great; but my question still is, is this a Ford factory installed product?

Lol Only the part that touches your butt and lower back is actual leather. This has been The case for a while and the same with other cars. Id say. 60 percent of OEM covers is vinyl.

100 percent leather would be pricey for everyone!!!

We didn't find any leather in the butt/back area, either. Just cotton padded grain look vinyl. Nice, but still vinyl.

search item#281112864521. As you said, ebay always starts somewhere else. Not to drone on and on, but does Ford offer REAL leather in their cheapo models, or is it a leather/vinyl blend, artificial leather or what, 'cause this $&!^ ain't never been close to a cow. Thanks for all the input.

Pix irrelevant, as these covers are identical to the ones every one else has purchased from Roush and the other sellers; dark charcoal with light grey stitching. Look and fit great, just not real leather.

Not really sure I have a 05 gt with the red leather but to me I've always thought it to be vinyl. Mine was out fitted with the shaker 500 system, and every option out there at the time aside from convertible. So I'm gushing mine isn't the cheepoo but either way my seats seem to be more vinyl then anything......lol. My interior is perfect, aside from the drivers side I have one small crack and a tiny bit of fading and a whole lot of ocd. And I'm not really trying to pay 600 bucks a seat fire the oem replacement. Be nice to make a score like you....

Please post pics!!

It is my understanding that only the center "pleated" section of the front seats is leather on premium interior mustangs. And not very good leather at that.

Only the middle (inside the bolsters) of the backs and bases of the seats seats from top to bottom are leather, on ALL newer mustangs with leather. Hence the term leather "seating surface". Not sure about the headrests, but my guess would be vinyl. Only wat to get 100% leather would be aftermarket like Katzkin...
