IOS 6 installed. I deleted the SYNC pairing from both the iPhone and Mustang side. I the resynced the phone with SYNC. When I try to turn on Message Notification it says: Not Supported for Current Phone. Doesn't work.
I confirmed it does work on a 2012 with EP. You have to delete the connection from sync and the phone. Then reconnect, then select the Bluetooth connection on your phone and select show notifications. Then turn on MAP profile, auto download, and text notifications under advanced settings in sync.
Note that it would not work when my wife without iOS6 tried it to text me, but it did work with my friend who has iOS6 when he texted me.
I'm in the process of updating my wife's phone to see if that was the issue...

When I go into Phone on Sync and try to enable Notifications I get:

I also don't see an ADVANCED tab in SYSTEM SETTINGS.

Select phone, them select your phone on the list and there should be an advanced button on the right.
I just downloaded iOS6 to my wife's phone and I get her texts now too. I guess the phone sending the text has to have the MAP stuff (technical I know) in order for the car to get it.
I couldn't enable notifications until I turned on the MAP profile. It is on page two or three of the same menu that the enable message notification option is on.
I still can't text out using the short phrases built into sync though. Not a big deal to me as its more button pushes than I'd want to do while driving. Incoming works great though.
Note I'm no sync tech, just been messing with it until I got it to work. Thanks to Newpony for sending me down the right path!

Duh .. I did not realize there were additional pages to scroll down in the advance tab .. LOL. Found the Map Profile .. got everything turned on and everything is enabled in SYNC and Show notifications is on the phone. Nothing works though .. what is supposed to happen?
I assume if I get a text SYNC will read it or show it on the EP LCD?? Can I dictate a text to sync and send it? Does it work only with text messages or does it also work with iMessage messages?

OK ..after turning car off and rebooting phone ... it will know alert that I received a text message. I can then say READ MESSAGE and SYNC will read it. Seems to work whether it's SMS or iMessage. But it always comes in as UNKNOWN. My Iphone has no problem displaying who it's from. and my phonebook was downloaded to sync.
I got mine to receive (2012 EP) but like others have encountered, all messages are from "Unknown". They're also dated 1/1/1601 at 12:00 AM. Reply obviously doesn't work because the sender is unknown. I also tried to send a message from scratch using the address book, and while it said it send successfully the addressee never received it.
Based on the research I done the text feature won't work for us 2011 Mustang that have the NAV with SYNC version 3.1 Apparently you need version 3.2.2 which Ford won't give to us.

If you follow this thread https://themustangsource.com/f726/sy...-2-2-a-501183/ the Ford rep mentions that there will be a separate update just for us but not ETA, again

I also picked up a 5 today. Behaves same as 4s. BT MAP is an industry standard. Hopefully the problem is in IOS and not SYNC. Better chance of Apple fixing it than Ford fixing it. Any reports of it working OK in non Ford vehicles?
