Help!!! Instrument Cluster Swap 2010-2014 Mustang *

Okay, I am completely stumped and stuck and need advice/help!!!

I have a 2012 GT with a Whipple 2.3L Supercharger. I purchased a 220MPH SVT instrument cluster from Ford and they programmed it to my vin and current mileage. I followed all of the instructions that have been posted in this forum relating to the swap but the car won't turn on!!!

I bought a real Ford VCM II and Toughbook on ebay from an authorized Ford retailer. I did all of the updates for IDS and the VCM II but when I try to do the PATS configuration with my keys, I get an error message. I had unplugged the car battery while I was doing several modifications over the past week. Could it be because I did too many modifications at one time?

Here's everything I modified:

Installed Steeda triple core heat exchanger
Installed Ford Motorsport twin 65MM throttle body
2014 ABS Module
JLT Cold Air Intake
VMP Fuel Pump Booster
2014 HID headlights (with ProjectRetrofits.com harness)

I took the old instrument cluster out, did the wiring modifications involving the white/brown wire and green/purple wire. I purchased a 2014 steering wheel direct from Ford along with the appropriate switches on the steering wheel. I did not and could not do any modifications to the clockspring wiring or the switches as the 2014 steering wheel wiring already had all of the wires in place (there are no empty slots as described in the previous retrofit writeup).

I have made several attempts to run PATS and nothing happens!!! I would greatly appreciate if someone can walk/talk me through this. If you're in the SF Bay Area, I am willing to pay for your time!!! I need to get the car moving!!

I've attached a couple of pictures of what's happening with the instrument cluster and with the computer screen for PATS. Basically all of the error lights on the instrument cluster are on and flashing!! One of the messages that the PATS system is giving me is to "verify initial conditions". I have no idea what that means. I have made sure that the ignition is on and that all cables and connections are secured properly.

Thanks!!

Mike

i cant put any input because i dont actually know, BUT, isnt the cluster supposed to be programmed to the vin it was for? such as a gt500? and then pats, and then the asbuilt data to be changed to match a gt500?

i'm doing a boss cluster swap soon on my base model and not touching anything with the vin at all, just pats and asbuilt data.

The cluster was programmed for my vin by Ford. I did the swap and tried to do the PATS and was then planning on changing the as built data to a 2014 GT with track apps. I have no idea why it's not working. It's really frustrating and I don't want to tow it to Ford because I don't think they are going to be able to figure it out or support the swap of the cluster. Super frustrating!!!

Is your battery fully charged?

Do all modules respond when you do a network test?

Any CMDTC's on any modules?

Cheers,

I believe the battery is fully charged. I put a voltmeter on it and it shows 12.63 volts. Although one of the errors that is appearing on the screen of the cluster is something about "charging". Should I buy a new battery? It appears that all the modules are responding but I got a ton of CMDTC's. There are numerous modules showing up. Was I supposed to enter a different PCM id other than what is on the car? When I plugged the VCM II in, it didn't immediately recognize my car. I had to manually enter the PCM part number and then my VIN. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?

I can't help you, but I'm local and I want to see your car and go for a ride when you have it up and running!

I am flying to the bay today. I have time tomorrow evening. I did the same thing and mine works just fine.

You shouldn't get those messages. They only come when something is screwed up with the PCM.

The PATS is straight forward.

Something else happened.
I suspect the wiring. I had a similar issue when I installed the AMP for the NAV retrofit and it was a screw from the glove department that messed up that same thing.

PM me.

Is there a broken wire on your connectors?

LEXiiON, PM sent. I am also going to put in a brand new battery today in case it's the battery that may be the issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have your alternator checked.

That is below the minimum safe voltage for module interaction.

Okay, I was able to get the PATS function to work and now at least the car turns on. The problem I'm having and a couple forum members are trying to help me with is that I can't PMI the PCM to a 2013. The instrument cluster is fully operational but no track apps visible on it. Every time I try to PMI the PCM, IDS reads the original 2012 PCI part number and will not allow me to PMI it. I also cannot get in there to enter the correct As Built data. I have already installed a 2014 ABS module. Any thoughts out there???

You do not need to do a PMI to change ASBUILT.
