Galaxy-Tab 7" Mod COMPLETE!

First off thanks a ton to "dmhines" for the initial idea and help on getting mine installed.

My wife bought me a Galaxy Tablet on a Black Friday special....same day the "Co-Pilot" live software went on sale fro $9.99!!
I found the extra radio faceplate/bezel on ebay for $60. All in all cheaper than my Pioneer DbleDin gps/nav in my truck!

Countless hours looking at dmhines pics online and reading up on how he did his I was able to get mine installed. I pretty much did exactly what he did, with a few minor changes here and there. I still have not yet figured out what I am going to use to clean up the edges of the bezel, but it does not look all that bad right now in my opinion. Took a few hours in teh garage to "dremel" out all the required pieces to get the tab to fit correctly. Some soldering on the circuit board and all is finished.
I did not install a reset button on top....yet. I figure I will get to that if I ever have to pull this puppy out to reset it.

So far it is working like a champ, comes on with the key and off when the car is off.
Looking forward to being able to use it more with time.....

Yes...you use the steering wheel controls to control the volume, seek and source (FM/AM/Tablet/Satellite etc) Shown in the video if I can ever get it to upload...taking forever!

VIDEO.....I had to re-film this with my phone so the file was not HD. The HD version took way too much time to upload!

The best way would be to have a fiberglass guy finish it off to make it look factory ... like at a custom car audio shop.

I like what you've done. I am currently researching the possibility of installing a CarPC running the Android OS. I have the x86 version of Android downloaded and am going to test install on a PC to see what kind of performance I can expect before buying a full out CarPC.

The purpose of doing the CarPC versus just installing a tablet like you have done is to get rid of the Shaker 500. Though looking at the prices of this little conversion I will probably be better off just buying the install kit (whenever it finally comes out) and a Pioneer screen and calling it a day. Too bad you can't install Android on a Pioneer screen!

That's very cool. I hope it catches on so the price will come down. Not trying to spend that much. The Pioneer screens work great the way they are and if i can get a unit that will run Android for the same price then I'm game but $800 is a little much right now. It is very cool though.

I don't think I spent over $375 on this setup! Like I said before it is less than half the cost of the Pioneer unit I put in my truck (Z110BT)

It's a great setup. I just want to get rid of the Shaker 500 so badly. The bass roll-off is killing me. I even contemplated running a tablet like this to a crossover then to my amps. I will lose the ability to Fade from front to back but if it makes the system sound better then I am all for it. I looked at the new metra kit and I still like the scosche one better. But great job on this mod, its got me thinking more and more about trying out my crossover idea.
