Factory aluminum shifter knob on 2011 GT
So, I didn't particularly care for the leather seat design in Rapid Spec 401A Color Accent Package...but really wanted that aluminum shifter ****.
I ended up ordering one, through my local dealer, thinking it was only the **** I needed. Well as you might have guessed, I was quite wrong
If you plan on getting the factory aluminum ****, make sure you order the shifter boot assembly specific to the aluminum ****. The neck circumference is quite different between the stock unit. While the **** itself fits just fine and there's no functional problem, it looks like crap becuase the boot collar doesn't have a flush fit against the aluminum ****.
Ugh...the boot!

Here's what it should look like...

That being said, I really, really love the solid feel of the aluminum ****! I've had an 07 GT and frankly, was quite tired of the look and feel of GT's same exact 05+ stock shifter ****. The new aluminum **** is slightly smaller, feels SOLID, and easy to grip in number of hold positions.

Speaking of which, any good place to order the boot assembly at a good price? I probably paid too much for the shifter **** at my local dealership since it was a special order.

Unless you're really set on getting the boot, go to grabberypony.com and order one of their 05+ boot adapters. It'll make your setup look like factory and probably cost you a good bit less. Note that the 2010+ adapters listed on their web site are for those with the 401A boot.
I put one of these on my 2010 Roush shifter/black ball and it looks great! No need to buy a different boot.

Thanks Sky! I was actually looking at that site earlier, but will give them a call tomorrow for the full skinny. One concern I have is that the OEM aluminum **** is a one-piece unit where the aluminum neck is part of the body. Grabberpony's adapter appears to be designed for ***** that do not have a neck. You'll notice on my first picture where there really is no room for an adapter even if I push down the collar.
Scared to find out how much Ford is going to want for the factory boot should I decide to go that route!

Fail!
j/k....haha... it happens to all of us!

William, nice car. It has almost the same options as mine, except I have a 400A and don't have HID headlights, but do have a Shaker 1000.
As for the shifter, post #10 of this thread has some pictures of what is involved in the install.
(He lists a different part number for the boot than what I have below. I think because his is a 2010)
https://themustangsource.com/f726/40...hreads-480903/
Ford Part Numbers:
**** - BR3Z-7213-DA $120-$130
Boot - BR3Z-7277-B $40-$50
https://themustangsource.com/f726/an...6/#post5918655
I bought mine at Fordparts.com and gave them to my salesman, and he had them put them on as part of prepping the car. I had the parts more than 2 months before I had the car.
I too would rather not have the striped seats of the 401A package, but I might have ordered it that way if I knew then the 401A interior was needed for this shifter. It turned out better this way though, I got the seats I wanted and the shifter I wanted.

Ahhh, okay. I did not realize the OEM aluminum **** and neck were one piece. I guess that ruins my suggestion then lol.
Thanks for the great feedback guys. All great stuff. And certainly an EPIC FAIL on my short sightedness without even thinking about the boot!
Tony, thanks for the detailed info. I tried searching the forum earlier but couldn't find it. Nonetheless, you have the answer I was looking for.
Love the feel of the ****!
EDIT: Anyone know of a good mail order place that sell OEM parts at a discount? My dealer will only special order the boot (AR3Z-7277-B) and will charge full retail price. I already paid too much for the **** itself at $135+tax.

I'm thinking about ordering the **** and boot for my car (which is too be delivered any day now). That's the one thing I really liked about the 401a package that I wish I had. (I prefer the seats standard leather and dash).
How hard is it to take off the center console? Taking it off won't cause any rattles will it?

BR3Z-7213-DA (NEW) WANTED. BILLET ALUMINUM 6SPD ****.
By any chance. Does any one have one of these that they either bought new or has a take off from their car that they want to sell. I ordered my car exactlly how I wanted it but was not able to get this at the time of the sale. It is on B/O everywhere. The stock **** is nice but not the one that I really wanted. I already have the proper boot that I ordered from my ford dealer but the **** as I have been told is on B/O with no ETA.
let me know if anyone wants to sell.
DAVE.

The aluminum **** has a great feel if you live in a moderate climate all year. But the aluminum turns into a ice cube in the winter and scorching hot plate in the summer. That is why I switched mine to the grabber pony ****. Plus with all the different choices you can really make it into anything you want.
It was so bad a times I would have to use my jacket sleeve just to be able to shift the car.
