Dynamat

After having the GT500 axlebacks fitted I felt it may be a good idea to experiment with some Dynamat - much raved about on forums. As it's bloody expensive for what is, some bitumen sheet with foil on one side and adhesive on the other, I just bought two packs to start with.

The 5.0 isn't particularly noisy in stock form and the GT500 mufflers are pretty civilised at cruising speeds... but what a difference this stuff made!

I off to ebay to get some more!

I've put about 20 sheets in mine so far.. worlds of difference.

What I've done so far:
- under the center console - (floor up over to floor and from the dash back to the rear seat)
- the back seat area (foot well up over the seat bottom up the bulkhead and under the speaker deck to the window and from qtr window louver down to the seat bottom)
- both doors
- the bulk of the trunk (still need to do the lid & tail light panels)

If you look and buy in bulk, you can find it for about $13 per sheet shipped.

Why ? Why would you change from the stock exhaust to one that sounds better, and then try to block out the new sounds ? am confused.............

I love the V8 sound and for that I'll lower the window, but I also like to my music when cruising on the motorway (read Freeway).

This stuff seems to do the trick of both quietening road noise and sharpening the sound system.

It will do the trick.

I used it in the trunk, tunnel, and under rear seats after installing long tube headers and Borla Stinger mufflers. It doesn't block the sound, but it allows my wife to actually hear me on the phone now.

I've gone from a loud 95 Vert. Motor was way louder & road noise. This 11 is super quiet now! Never understood the DynaMat thing.

Rather than use dynamat which is expensive as stated. I purchased some of the weather stripping from Autozone. Now before anyone freaks out, i only used it on the tail lights. I had 2 10 inch subs in the trunk and was getting some rattling from the tail lights. So i cut pieces of the weather stripping to go along the bottom of the lights which contacts the bumper. I also trimmed a small piece to go under the little plastic pieces on the inside areas of the lights since they contact the bumper as well. I then cut some small pieces and drilled a hole through them to go around each of the 3 studs on the housings that goes through the sheet metal inside the trunk. Now there is no plastic or metal contacting metal directly. I used some dynamat on the truck lid and it helped but I think i need a few more sheets to help out the trunk lid. But now the subs can be jamming and you hear almost nothing from the rear, even with the doors closed. I also used some thinner foam on the back of the license plate. Huge improvement. this weather stripping can be had for about $10 and is completely hidden. When i go home this week ill take a few pics and post them.

I can understand this because the Dynamat reduces vibration as much as sound. That vibration can be annoying. It would make the cabin more quiet but also free of road vibration as well.

How about closing the pass through? It strengthens the rear frame like the X brace on the Boss LS. Added a couple pieces of Dynamat over the holes and covered for a fold down parcel shelf.

I wonder if it would help lessen the drone from my AT Classics? Love the sound...hate the drone. I might put some under the seats.
