custom dash panel
I'm in the middle of making my own custom dash panel, one that places the head unit on top where it belongs. I started with an ADS MUS1 dash kit (I'm moving away from the Kenwood, so I will not need the climate control button row) and a Scosche dash kit for the climate control panel and electronics. I wanted to retain the pocket and the dual usb ports the MUS1 dash kit offers, so I cut the screen opening out, moved it to the top, then put the Scosche climate control panel below that. I used JB Weld plastic putty for the screen opening, and regular JB Weld for the climate control panel as I felt it needed some strength since the buttons will see some force. I filled in the seams with regular old 3M Bondo body filler, sanded like mad, them filled any pin holes or minor imperfections with 3M Bondo glazing putty, sanded some more, layed on a light coat of filler putty to find imperfections. I'm pretty happy where the panel is at this point. I plan on hitting it with atleast two more coat of primer, a touch more sanding then paint. does anyone know what color Ford uses on these interior parts? I need to thank RobDis for the inspiration for this project. any questions, thoughts or input is welcomed. here's a few pics:
here's a couple pics to show how much higher the screen will be than it is presently
I'm pointing to the top of the screen here

Yeah, I've done some custom panels in the past. The base looks good and you get so excited to check it out, but you need that clear on top to help protect that color coat. It looks good painted and installed.

Have you ever gave it some thought on getting both peices on the console Hydro diped so it will be all the same finish. Maybe a carbon fiber finish or so. They make so many different finished to choose from. You did such a great job on adding those peices all it needs is the finish to flow and look like it could of come from the factory that way.
job well done sir!!

unless you're talking about making more than 1, as like a product to sell...

I think the initial cost is high because you have to pay someone to electronically create the plans for 3D printing. If you can do that yourself, then maybe paying to print wouldn't be too bad.

I wrote "for a fee" not "for free".
I just thought that if some one with a 3d scanner could scan scott_0's dash panel, edit the scan to make it suitable for 3D printing, then maybe people would be able to just download the file and have it printed at a place that does 3D printing. I know there are some places in some cities where you can go in and print small things but I don't know if those places use the right kind of 3D printers or if those printers would be big enough to handle the whole panel. I also don't know how much it would cost. Like I said, it was just a thought.
