Component Speakers in Base Car?
Component Speakers in Base Car?
I just spent a bunch of money upgrading the base (non Shaker) system in my 2014 GT, including a 6.5" Focal 'Flax' component set, with the mid-base (6.5") drivers in the stock 5x7/6x8 location at the tops of the doors. Although it sounds better, there is a muffled quality that no EQ settings seem to be able to overcome. I'm just about convinced that it's due to the way the speaker ends up being largely behind a solid area (outside of where the door's perforated 'grill' is).
I'm considering buying replacement door panels, the ones with the woofer mounts at the bottom of the door, and mounting the 6.5" mid-bass drivers in the 8" woofer locations. Has anyone else put 6.5" mid-base drivers in that location, and how did it work out for you? TIA!

The components being in the doors should not have an effect on the sound, especially if you have an amp on them. The door is not solid there, there is a grille area the same as if you had a grill on them outside of the doors. Have you tried checking the wiring, or maybe giving them more power?
I am mounting a set of Infinity component speakers with the 6.5 driver in the stock 6x8 location. Will be getting it all hooked up this week, images up in my Boss audio upgrade thread.
