Clean dirty/glossy leather steering wheel

I don't know if anyone here knew about this, but I saw this over at a BMW forum. The pictures looked too good to be true, but I tried it on my 2005's Bullitt leather steering wheel. I should have taken pictures for you!

They used a Magic Eraser to gently wipe the steering wheel to remove dirt and the built up oil that causes the leather to go glossy. Their results are impressive. I used a Norwex eraser.

Before, my wheel was all glossy, and the grain was gone around areas where my hands would grip. Obviously, the magic eraser can't do anything about the smooth leather parts, but it did remove all the gloss and brought it back to the satin look the steering wheel had when I first bought it.

I am amazed. I just had to share this here for others.

I used to have an e46 M3 with a very shiny and dirty steering wheel. I saw this thread a while ago and decided to try it out. While the results are awesome at first, using the harsh magic eraser actually removes some of the protective coatings on top of the leather steering wheel. After a few times of using it, my steering wheel began to fade and get dirty very quickly. Just a warning. If you want to clean a leather steering wheel just use some pH balanced leather cleaner like lexol or something.
