Base Radio Replacement options

Hey guys,

As some of you may have seen I just bought a 2011 RTR GT. It came with the base radio, which I 'm sure you all know is a pile of crap.

I like the look and simplicity, but the sound is just terrible. I've looked through here and seen a few installs, but would like to see what people have done. Looking on crutchfield I see any radio you buy has to have a 200 dollar trim kit with it. Can anyone throw pics up of the fit and finish? Are there better options? I really just don't want to ruin the clean stock look it has going for it, but it all has to go.

Well of course! I already have the aftermarket stereo from my last mustang. I really just need to decide on how to tackle the dash, which will involve a new head unit.

I like that a lot. Do you need to have sync already to do this upgrade? or is this the Maestro unit?

I have a base car, but it does integrate with sync. It's the Maestro unit.

I have no sync and i was looking at the raxiom unit. I heard nothing of people using it that do not have sync so I'm stuck with the factory base radio also. I also want to change that for a lcd screen and maybe a reverse camera or even Navi.

I am going to stay basic. I do not need the extra crap. I'll use it for a day or two, then never mess with it again. But I will listen to the music a lot so I just want a better sound which equates to a new head unit and new speakers.

My headunit (DNX890HD) supports reverse wire trigger; and with the MUS1 harness the only factory wires it had to splice was the +/- obd wires. My display goes to backup cam when I go into reverse.

i upgraded my speakers, then added the premium door panels (gt500 actually) with the door subs and wired them in to a small 2 channel amp tied into the rear channels and adjusted everything to where it just gives it a nice big full sound and wow so much better than what my original stock speakers sounded like!

upgrade your speakers and you will definitely love the sound!
