that vid is just showing how easy it is to open the center console. You'd do the same procedure if you wanted to change the boot

I just ordered the Shifter **** and Boot from partscheap.com. I will report back once I get the parts and install done. Thanks for everyone's help on this!

Hey Guys, wanted to let you all know that I did a bit of product research myself on these parts hands on with the parts and a new 2011 because I was getting confused when I saw the chrome ring on that boot, and after finding out how different these new *****/boots are compared to the 05-09 Mustangs.
The boot we have on our website: http://www.partscheap.com/Mustang-Le...r3z-7277-b.htm
Does have a chrome ring on the top now. So i'll need to find an opportunity to photograph one and change that, for now I'll make a text notation.
The ball doesn't exactly snap into the boot, the boot snaps onto the actual shifter shaft from what I can tell and is held at a certain height that touches the shift ball. You can see this if you unscrew your regular shift ****. So the boot and ball will work together, as they are both part of the interior package, but it seems as though that chrome ring will be there from here on out.
If you have any more questions feel free to contact me. Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

This is what PartsCheap is referring to. The part was changed for 2011 with the chrome ring. I think it looks much better and provides a finished look.

Just got my parts this afternoon from parts cheap. The install was just as easy as described. No tools are needed and everything fit perfectly. Also a big thanks to the parts cheap guys, excellent customer service. They promptly dropped me an email letting me know my parts were back ordered and gave me an accurate timeline on when they would be in.

I made this swap a few weeks ago. It cost me $193 for the **** and boot after tax from my dealer which I'm sure partscheap will easily beat. It looks and feels great.
BTW, mind those tabs toward the back of the boot. I believe the cup holder assembly pops out and makes them much easier to access. I broke one of mine off but the other is ok and the boot is firm.

I got the **** for free from my sales guy at Ford, not realizing that I also needed the boot...
Furthermore, the actual assembly is totally different on the 401a than the 400a. It's something between the Hurst short shift, and the stock 400a. When I tried the 401a, it was actually the shorter shifts I was after.
Now, has anyone done this mod? Or perhaps installed the Hurst one? My fear is that the 401a parts are going to be expensive. The Hurst thing is 269 + tax.
I appreciate any insights on this. The throws on the stock shifter are way to long.
