I'm replacing the stock speakers in my 2013 shaker system and my local store doesn't have many choices, the best pair I could find in stock is this one:

Has anybody used these to upgrade?
Thanks.

So I am having the same issue as some of you here. I purchased a set of Rockford 6x8s for the front, thinking that they would just pop right in. I pulled out the door panels and to my surprise, it was actually a 5.25 component set. So I installed the 6x8s in the rear (they sound much better btw) and am trying to figure out what to do with the fronts.
Do you think that the speaker assembly could be re-used with a aftermarket component 5.25"s? I am not opposed to modifying the housing a little bit using a dremel, however the stock components are front mount. Most of the components that I have seen are rear mount.
Would I just be better off ordering the speaker assemblies from 2012 and putting in some more Rockford 6x8s? That will cost me another $100 according to fordparts.com.
This is quickly turning into a $300 project when I was only looking to replace the fronts for $100. Oh well.

Apparently if you can find 05-12 mustang door speakers, you can just reuse the bracket from them and pop in any 5x7 or 6x8 speaker. It's kind of hard and pricey to find them though... It's gonna end up costing me more than the new 6x8's that I purchased to be able to get brackets (the oem 05-12 speakers go for like 25-50 a piece on ebay)!

What about the base system in a base GT? Is it a simple install for 6x8's, or using one of the ready made kits for the 5.25"'s?

I just came back from my installer. My '13 GT Premium vert now sounds as it should, for not much cash outlay.
Here's what he did: hushmatted the doors at both the woofer and door speaker locations.
Replaced the front door plate speakers (cones are not paper in the '13, by the way) with 5-1/4 Focal IS 130 components ($166 if you know where to look). Mounted the mid and tweeter on the same plates the factory door speakers come on. Left the woofers alone; just did the hushmat treatment. Cost me just over $400 for everything, including labor. Left the rear speakers alone.
The difference in the Shaker 500 is night and day. No more vibration in the doors. No more muddiness in the sound. No more boomy bass. Tight and plenty of it; you can feel it. Clarity in the mids and highs. You can leave the EQ flat, no more having to boost the treble.
The Focals are 4 ohm speakers. Not to worry. They're very efficient. No loss of volume, and now all that volume is usable without the doors vibrating themselves apart.
Absolutely recommend this.
