Tint levels?

I'm thinking about tinting my rear and side windows. Our legal limit in SC is 27% but that's barely even dark so I know i'm going to go lower. 5% would be ideal but I really don't feel like getting a ticket for it. Should I just go with 15% or take the chance and get 5%? I'm not really sure how strict our officers are about window tint in my town.

It probably depends in where you are at in SC. I grew up in Columbia, and some cops would ticket you and some would not

I'm 20 mins outside of Columbia, in Lexington. How much even are window tint tickets in Cola area?

It's up to you. I would not risk it but I'm in Georgia now and our limit is 35% for side glass (it might be 20% for the rear).

why look for trouble. The law today can make your life very difficult. One stop by Johnny law will lead into other unwanted tickets. Maybe it's me but I don't want to drive looking over my shoulder.

Agreed. Stick with what's legal.

From a practical standpoint, even 35% is plenty dark to greatly reduce glare and UV/visible light. If you want darker just for looks, then go for it, just realize that you're not getting any more "performance" from the darker tint, just harder to see through.

I had 5% on the rears of my Focus and didn't like it. Too dark, and couldn't see a **** thing when reversing unless there were good street lights around. Fronts were 35% and were great. A little darker would've been preferred, so if you can go mid 20's legally that's ideal IMO.

I still have to roll the windows down if I want to back on in the dark, good thing for Back Up Cameras

If you go too dark it kinda sucks in night driving. Be careful and do not go too dark or it is very easy for the friendly officer to pick you out of a crowd. I do wish mine were just a bit darker, but I went the legal route. This is 35% on the sides.

Here is a site to let you know what is legal in the various states...

You have to ask yourself this question first. Are you one of those lucky people who can get away with everything or are you one of those guys who gets caught doing everything. Once you know that answer it's easy! I took a chance in PA and got three months before the Po-Po got me! Don't take the chance unless you want to pee money away.
