Stripe questions
Stripe questions
I have a new Grabber Blue on order that should be arriving at my dealer in the next week or so. I haven't decided for sure whether or not I must have the stripes. I figure that I will know for sure after looking at the car in person for a bit. It will have the matte black stripes on the side that come with the rear spoiler package, and I intend to leave them as is. I almost ordered the factory stripe package, but, I much prefer the doubles like on the Shelbys and also, I prefer the stripes to continue down the bumpers, instead of stopping short. That all being said, I have been looking at lots of pics on here and have a couple of questions. First of all, do most prefer 10 or 12 inch stripes? Are the 12 inchers noticably more difficult to install? Also, is the space between the stripes usually 2 inches, or something else? As I said before, I have looked at lots of pics, but few actually tell the dimensions. If you have pics to show, especially of a GB with matte black stripes, I would love to see them, but please post the width and spacing as well! One of the pics that really stood out for me was a grey car with 12" matte black stripes.
I'm thinking about striping my ghig here soon so I have also been looking at a lot of stripes. I prefer the 10 inch stripes, I really love the color and I don't want to cover any more than I have to, im simply trying to add an accent.
I checked a couple of shops locally, and one gets $500, and another gets around $400, but his shop didn't really impress me as being very professional. I have been thinking of doing them myself. I would like to hear from those who have done their own. Is laying them out pretty straight forward? I was thinking of measuring and marking the center of the car and working from there. Right now, I am liking the stripes from Decal Shoppe, as they are cut for the car and require no trimming. They offer 2 different materials, a 6 year, 2.5 mil, and an 8 year, 2.0 mil for about 50% more. My thought would be to spring for the more expensive stripes, unless, the others were easier to install. Thoughts on that? Also, my car will spend most of its life out on the highway at speeds from 65 to 75 mph. The front takes a really beating over time from bugs and debris in the air. Anyone think the thicker material may hold up better on the front bumper than the thin?
Maybe this will help you decide stripe and no stripe. You will probably go with the stripes But on Grabber Blue you have another decision. gloss or Matte. good luck on your decision. best advice do what makes you happy and not what others think.
Thanks for posting the pics. Your car looks great! That is one decision that I will not be fussing over. My car will already have matte stripes on the side, so I will match them. I think the stripes will really enhance the Grabber Blue, I saw a plain one, and it was almost too much blue for me. I was at the dealer on friday, checking on my car, and they had a white GT on the floor. At first glance, I thought it had the glass roof. When I got up closer, it was just that the roof was black. It was a very sharp look, I thought, especially with tinted windows.
I absolutely love the new wheels, Danielle! I would like to know for certain whether your stripes are 12" or not, if you were to get the opportunity. I had just about settled on the 10" stripes, but you just had to tell me that you think yours are 12's, LOL.
It sounded kind of expensive to me, but I am sort of thrifty, so I figured it was just me being cheap! I do understand that these are shops with rent to pay and lights to keep on, etc. There is also a value that comes with knowing they have done the job many times, and are routinely working on brand new cars. So, its not necessarily that the price is too high, but just more than I would like to spend. The factory installed option from Ford is $495, which I would have done if it would have been the doubles instead of the single wide. I would rather support a local shop when I can as opposed to ordering everything online. Sometimes, there is just too large a disparity in price. As it is, I will most likely just spend an afternoon and do it myself. I have installed some stripes on the sides of a truck before, but they weren't as wide as these. With a little help, it should work out fine! However, I am starting to wonder If my car will ever be delivered!
I went with 10" and 10 year laminated vinyl and side stripes were $800 installed by a pretty sick graphics guy.
You can see the album in my profile.
I will say I think black stripes makes a car look more sinister and white makes a car look more summer style. Both nice, but both convey a completely different feeling.

Here is the link to the post that covered my installation of the stripes I got from AM.

Thanks for posting that, Steve. I finally (really not a long wait at all, but the delivery time was weak) picked up the car on my way to work on Thurs. I am no longer sure whether I will add the stripes or not. Probably in a couple of weeks, I will be all about them again. Right now, I am enjoying the car. I got the windows tinted yesterday, and will probably install my MRT Interceptors today.
Enjoy it. I scared the crap out of myself a couple of times in the first couple of weeks I had her. Just take it easy. The electronic nannies saved me. I was torn with what color stripes to get for a while. I hadn't seen any DIB with silver besides some of the Shelby's with the PP on them so I went with that. Kind of OEM plus. Install really wasn't that hard. Make sure you take your time. The stripes from AM are quality material. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't. They are holding up great even being beat to death by the weather here in Europe.
