Spray painting rotor hats, calipers, and other stuff

When it comes time to throw my wheels back on I'm gonna want to clean up behind the wheels a little. I was thinking of painting the hats black and the calipers red and anything else you guys have ideas for..
Is there anyway to prevent that little rusting edge on the rotor that the pad doesn't contact? Also maybe paint inside the rotor on the edges, it gets a little ugly there too.

If you guys can, post up what you did and pics if you have any. Also what products and methods you used (on or off car, cleaning, brands, etc)

I'm using g2 caliper paint on my calipers. It's an epoxy based system and won't peel, fade, or come off with brake cleaner.

Winner!! Thanks for the first useful post in the thread. lol

Where did you pick it up from? Is is significantly more expensive then the other kits/paints out there?

I got mine from amazing. It's 38 dollars for a kit that will do 4 calipers. Idk how that would translate to rotors, but I assume it would be close.

If you have brembo brakes, you will need two kits as they have more surface area.

I have used G2 on several cars. It really holds up nice and self levels out to a really smooth glossy finish. I saw a car I sold 4 years ago and they looked like the day I did them. I have a kit of Silver G2 to do my mustangs calipers just waiting to be put on. Amazon is the best price I have ever found.

As for needing two kits for Brembo cars, I don't think you would need it. Every time I have used these kits I have at least a third of the epoxy mix left over and I do all four and cover the whole caliper.

Haha amazon. iPhone autocorrect got me again!

As for the 2 vs 1 kit, id rather have extra and be able to do 3-4 coats on all 4 calipers than run out and only get 2 coats or something. Especially when I have them all apart, wheels off, and on jackstands.

Gonna try and tackle it in a few weeks or maybe one night next week.

I did mine last week. I used some spray from autozone. It was like $14 dollars. Can't remember the brand it is on there website. I didn't take them off. Just masked off good. Planning on getting new pads so also sprayed the back of them. Turned out good to me.

This stuff is great. Used it on two of my previous cars and had no problems after years of abuse. The only aftermarket solution for brake color worth your time IMO.

Yeah I've looked around and that seems to be the best kit in town. Is it possible to do a good clean job without taking everything apart?!??

It probably is, but if I do it, I'm just gonna do it right the first time. Hang the calipers from the springs, and remove the caliper mounting brackets and paint them on the side. That way you get full coverage.

As of right now, I'm not disconnecting the lines. Although I am debating just upgrading to braided lines at this point. Time and finances shall decide that.

Lol... I thought when you said you were doing it right you meant you were totally breaking down the caliper.. Lines, pistons, seals and all. So you just mean your removing the caliper from the rotor and then removing the pads?

Correct.

Since it is a brush on application and not a spray on, there is NO reason to break them down completely.

Just taking them off so I can get all visible surfaces.

Sweet!! Didn't realize it was a brush on. That should make it easy avoiding overspray no doubt.
