retrofit 13/14 taillights to 10-12 with gap: fixed

Looks like AM is't going to come out with new taillights for 10-12 owners, but they now have a trim piece to fill that nasty gap. It actually looks pretty good.

Because of this, I just bought a set of taillights off Ebay and have bought these trim pieces.

Check it out below:

Looks good. I saw a LS with 2013/14 taillights in it the other day and had the gap. I guess they need to visit American Muscle!

I'm thinking of doing same. But the price of those lights are painful.

Yes they are. I got mine off Ebay this morning for $550.

I notice that as soon as they pop up they get grabbed, so you need check often.

There is a pair on there for 300, but they need repairing. Zero figures they can be fixed cheap, but I decided not to take the chance.

Mine have scratches, but no cracks, and the LEDs are supposed to be all good.

Hard to tell in pictures, but hopefully the scratches are not deep and I can wet sand them and use a cutting polish to get them out.

Have you guys tested them painted body color instead of black? Wonder how they would look? Then you could add them to your pre-painted parts list.

I think it is more of a extension of the black taillight plastic, instead of filling the gap bumper side (and then in the car color).. It basically gives the 13+ taillights the shape of the 10-12..

I think it would look odd painted in body color

I think so as well.

Got my lights and trim pieces on the way.

Lights have scratches, so there will be wet sanding and polishing involved ...

I wish someone would come up with pre-cut tint pieces for the red squares on the outer surface of the taillights, .............................AM??!! . I have the inserts for the white-ish squares, but would rather have the entire light blacked out. Don't want to risk messing them up with VHT or paint since they are so expensive to replace.

Would like to achieve this look with tint:

My taillights should be here today, but the trim pieces not until Monday. I'll post pics when I have them mounted.

Wow that's a cool idea. I didn't realize the 13-14 fit in the 11-12's. That's a pretty constructive fix for it. I still want the raxiom 5th gen lights for my 07.

I thought about it as well for my 05, but decided that it would not be in keeping with the looks of my car. Looking forward to adding them to my 12, though.
