Proper lower grille for 2010-2012 V6s (modded AM product)

Hey all,

I recently got a deal on an OEM California Special grille (not knowing if it would fit my V6 at all or not). Once I realized that it fit perfectly...and (to me) looks better than the silver version on the MCA edition, I knew I had to do something about that lower grille.

On the MCA edition, Ford neglected to create a matching lower horizontal bar grille. That car comes with an unusual mismatch of the horizontal bars up top and honeycomb on the bottom. The only options I could find (with horizontal bars) didn't come close to matching the slat size or spacing of the upper grille. Even the lower grille that AM sells with the somewhat chunky Modern Retro upper grille for the 2010-2012 Mustangs doesn't match...the lower grille has a much MUCH finer wire size and density (it looks like about 3/8" spacing with 8 skinny little bars) which just doesn't match the upper AT ALL. I don't know if nobody has noticed it, or mentioned it, but nothing seems to have been done about it.

I may have come up with a solution (at least the best solution I have found so far). I bought the Modern Billet Black Retro Grille for the 2013-14 Mustang (yup - I knew I'd need to modify it, that was the plan), and after some snipping and bending, I managed to massage it into place without a terrible amount of trouble.

Check the photo. The spacing doesn't exactly match the CS grille, but it's far closer than anything else I've found anywhere to date. If there's interest, I can post some details on what I bought and how I modified it to fit (with photos). Let me know.

Looks good! If I didnt know any better Id say they were a matching pair. I had the same problem with my 08 pony package. The upper grill was honeycomb and the lower grill was a horizontal bar. I ended up finding a matching honeycomb grill online somewhere and it matched perfectly.
