Mustang headlight question
Just a question...
I thought all mustang halogen headlights had a chrome surround on the turn signals inside the housing... I got a set on eBay and they say Ford on them, so they are OEM, but there is no chrome on the inside. What's the deal with all black? Are they from a V6 or something?
Thanks!

Ok, thanks... I have only examined the housings indoors and the part that should be chrome sure looks black to me in any light. Shiny black, but black nonetheless. The space between the turn signals is definitely black... I'll take them outside tomorrow and look in normal light to see if they look more like chrome.
Until then, does anybody know if they ever made all black housings like I described?

I have seen a lot of stuff go on eBay lately that you cannot normally buy through the Ford parts distribution like spare steering wheel airbag covers with no airbag, airbag emblems... etc. These things may be leaking from the vendors that make parts by employees looking to make a few bucks on the side.
It is possible that Ford may have originally specified all black housings as a running change on all 2013 models until perhaps it was decided at the last minute to go HID across the line. It's very possible that someone that works for Ford's suppliers got a hold of these and instead of discarding them decided to keep them and sell them on eBay. Something like this would explain why the parts themselves have Ford logos molded into the parts.

They were from a private seller who said they were take offs. There were part number stickers that match early OEM numbers and Ford markings in the plastic. They are legitimate OEM, but I can't figure out what version of the GT they came from. Maybe one of the first 2010s?
I looked at them outside and although the surround is shiny, it is indeed black. It might look really good since I have a black 2011, but I wanted the bright look of the chrome version. I might just order a new set and keep these for spares. I got them pretty cheap.

Okay my next guess is that they are late 2012 production specific because none of us have seen all black until now on this later production 2012 Boss. I have to assume at this point all black is being assigned to V8 models as a running change.
I just looked up online Ford parts catalogs and they are now listing separate part numbers between V6 & GT regular halogen headlights. There is nothing that says what the difference is. However I cannot find a single picture of any car with all black housings other than one picture of a Boss 302 in the 2012 Ford Mustang image gallery.

I put up a poll which samples only 2012 B302's. It's too early to tell, so far there are two B302's in competition orange and one black LS. Out of those three, one of the orange cars has chrome-trimmed headlights.

Lots of all black housings on eBay for sale. I like those better than my chrome ones but they cost more than a full set of projector type headlights and that makes it hard to spend the money.
Now if they made a set of projectors with three lamps low beam, high beam and fogs that would be worth the money.
