MRT Hood Struts installed (pics) - thoughts/impressions

Yes, it is true. the strut of my 98 escort wagon looses its strength through years. now it can only raises to 2/3 way of its full height. I have to help it complete the rest. But it can still hold the position wherever I push the rear gate up.

No heat gun needed, they peel right off with no residue. I peeled mine off because I want mine to look as OEM as possible. Installed mine this past weekend and all I have left to do is touch up the bolts with some KB paint.

THIS I have to do still. I ordered touch up paint I have to pick up... I wish there was a way to not peel the bolts using sockets, but eh. What choice do we have.

For those asking about using these with fiberglass hoods, call MRT. They have a different support that works on the fiberglass hoods for the 2005-09 year and no bowing of the hoods. The MRT Cherry6T6 SEMA car has had them on for years and the hood is still straight. You have to ask for the struts for fiberglass hoods or they will send out the stock struts.

As far as I know MRT doesn't charge a different price for the other struts, you just have to specify when you call to purchase them. Otherwise they will send the standard strut.

Thanks. I already have them installed so if I buy a FG hood I'll need the new struts. I'll happily pay for a new set.

Do all stang hoods need to be dropped from so far up to close completely? I thought mine was not designed correctly, but after seeing the OP have to slam the gejesus out of his as well... maybe it's normal?
also, kona blue touchup paint for the nuts... is this a dealership thing or is there a good match online?

Gonna get me a set in the powdercoat, hope they go good with black. I can't see speeding an extra 40 bucks to match black.
The "MMD" ones from AM seem to go up in price every time I see them. Even tho I hear they don't for well.

Took me an hour (lallygagging) but should be 15mins tops? And that was me making sure I didn't strip the bolts of paint when using a socket. The majority of the time was making sure the hood lined up with the bolt holes again after you removed the stock bolt from the hinge. But all in all easy peasy.

I was careful but still had paint come off of the bolts. A little touch up paint solved the issue.
FYI it's been reported elsewhere that MRT sells different tension struts for use with a lighter aftermarket hood. I've confirmed that MRT sells lower tension struts for $15 each. Call Jason Lang at MRT to order.
