Looking for good Window Tinting in Metro Detroit
Had 50 % tint all around on my 07 GT last year by " Made in The Shade " in Harrison Twp. Very pleased with the results. Best part for me was that Bob the owner did the work in my garage. Learned about them from Alternative Auto.

Where did you end up going for your tint and how did it turn out? I will be looking to get my windows tinted and a clear bra applied within the next month and both Sun Shade and Notorious Tintz offer both services.
Still pending. The old 27 inch TV in my office (read as man cave) at home went out so I ended spending my tinting money (plus a bit) on a new 32 inch LED TV. Also I found another place only a few miles away called Golden Star Auto Glass (Notorius Tintz in Livonia is a bit of a hike for me) that actually has a slightly better price and the same warranty. I'll probably get them done in September after I get a chance to check out the new place. Still undecided about the % I'm going with. It's kind of funny but it's turned into a bit of an obsession for me. Driving around town I can't stop noticing every car that has all the windows tinted and wondering where they got it done and what % tint it is. I really need to just get mine done so I can move on.
Just FYI... I had 35% on the windows for almost a year and no issues, until my wife took it to work one day and was pulled over by MSP on 96 and southfield on her way back home. Got a fix-it ticket. So check with the place if they will remove tint for free or a discounted price if (HOPE NO ONE has to) you run into the same situation and have to remove and tint again
I've had 35% on my Charger here in Michigan for years. Was stopped for it only once, and I think it was more of a "convenience" stop than anything that otherwise triggered the LEO.
As always, before I was even stopped completely all four windows were opened. It's not effectively tinted if the window is open, and LEO's appreciate that. Plus, both hands visible as he approached. He of course checked my records and such, and he actually became more more interested in the "police" scanner I had in the vehicle. He didn't know the law very well, recently changed in Michigan that you can have portable ones in vehicles with a permit from the state PD (which I had). Anyway, no ticket or even a stern warning, just a "have a nice day" kind of parting.
I'm very watchful of "seat belt stings", where they watch everyone with binoculars looking for seat belt usage. If so, open that window so they can see you're wearing it. If they don't see it, due to tint or otherwise, you're in some hurt if you're one to get stopped.
And on Chargers, the side windows are small so the tint has a darker appearance than others. I do have a sunroof, and open it immediately if it's an issue with a cop nearby, as it lets more light in. 35% is enough that you CAN see in, even at night with dome lights on, but it cuts enough of that dam brightness from SUV's who just seem to love hanging out right in your side mirror. My eyes are VERY sensitive to light, and I truly don't get tint for appearance (though it does look SO much better), it's function for me. I tried to get my optometrist to write a note for tint, he wouldn't budge - I did it anyway, it's that important to me.

It seems to be such a hit or miss thing here in Michigan. A guy I work with that has a 2011 GT has all his windows tinted @ 20% and says he's never had a problem. Driving around I seem to see lots of vehicles with tints that appear to be darker than 35%. The nearby place I found is charging less than $160 so worst case it's not really that much money. Not that I'm rich or anything, but the tinting does look sweet and at that price would be worth the risk for me. I'll probably go with 35% when I do it. I'm figuring with the black interior it'll end up looking darker and if I go darker I'll just be pushing my luck.
I think my post did not come across as intended, the intent was not to highlight that we got pulled over, but to select a shop that will remove the tint for free (or discounted price) incase you got a fix-it type ticket. I did get windows re tinted from the same shop and they took that, removal fee, off the price of the re-install. I think my wife just had a bad day and prolly did not do what I (like Joe also stated above) would have done and that is have the windows rolled down before coming to a stop... But tint makes such a difference, 35% on a cloudy day is dark enough where it looks like almost 20%

I've been pulled over four times for tint in other cars. They can write it up two ways; defective equipment, or obstruction of view. The latter is the tougher one to fight.
Steve is correct on the Tint laws... I was issued a defective equipment ticket, so I had to take the tint off, go to some local police Dept and have it inspected (The cop was cool and said he could see how much nicer the car would have looked with Tint) and then go to the court and get it waived off.
If I remember correctly, the ticket was close to $200 if I decided to pay it instead

You're lucky it was a DE ticket. Those are pretty easy to get out of. The OOV one is basically a fine, unless you fight it and the cop doesn't show. I took a receipt of having my tint removed within 3 days of the ticket and fought it and won, but that might not always work for every one.
Didn't know that thanks for info. I'm still gonna have to tint it though :-) Cant have a mustang without tinted windows. I had a transam for 4 years, not sure what the tint was but it had to be 20% or darker, guess I was lucky never been pulled over. Always rolled my windows down when I seen the police.
I called up one of the suggested places (thanks for the suggestions!) and I am now confused...I was curious about getting the 3M scotchgard but they mentioned two things at different prices: 3m full vehicle paint film for $275 or 3m scotchgard for $1150~...I asked what the difference is and he said paint film is 3m scotchgard. I don't know if I am just too unfamiliar with this stuff or what but even searching for 3m paint film brings up Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film...
Can anyone explain what the difference is between these and why there would be such a price difference? Thanks!

Here is my window tint, 20%. Got it done at Notorious Tintz in Livonia. IMO he did a really good job. He's a one man shop with his wife helping out in the office. I think the car looks a lot better with the tinted windows.
Here are a few pics, before and after.

Got my car tinted about two months ago and got a citation no fine. All I have to do is remove the tint and have an officer verify and sign my citation. Then mail it back to the original officer. I'm so ticked I didn't do anything and I'm curious if they can then ticket me now? Anyone know?
