Honestly...

I've been thinking about blacking out my tail lights... Good idea or bad appearance wise.

I don't think it's that bad of a idea unless you drive alot at night. I thought about putting a light shade on myself from the local tint guys

It can make a pretty dramatic difference in the way the car looks, but it can have the same effect on other people trying to see your lights. I've followed several cars that were tinted and the only wat I could tell they were braking was looking at the HMSTL. If you tint them, spend the money for the brightest LED bulb you can fit in the socket.

If you like the look, go for it.

I don't, personally. Wonder if you could counter a rear-end claim if the driver in front had dark enough taillights?

Honestly it's worse in the daytime bright sunlight. At night tinted taillights show up really well because it's dark out, but in the daytime, especially direct sun, they can be almost impossible to see depending on how dark they are tinted.

I hardly ever drive mine and it's mostly at night, but I have to admit to looking in the rear view mirror to make sure the cars behind me stop.

If you must do it, don't go dark. Make it where it's hardly noticeable and be prepared to fail vehicle inspections if you have them in your state.

Do it and leave the reverse lights white. That's how mine are. Can't figure out how to post pics from my IPhone...

I say do it. I had mine professionally done- if you do it right you'll be fine. In 2+ years when i had the car- never been cited for them, and when i was pulled over for say, no front plate (4-5 times, got out of each one ) - the rears were never tacked on.

Please be sure to do the 3rd brake light as well tho... IMO.

You just have to push the little + button next to send

Also I say do it tint looks good and the LED tails on the cars are bright enough to compensate the tint

I think that looks best on the 10+ tail lights. And do what looks good. It's a cheap quick mod that changes the entire appearance of your car. I did it on my zinc yellow 02 that had black stripes and it looked fantastic. Never got any complaints about not being able to see the lights in the day or at night. I got the covers which made them look completely black but were pretty thin. I think covers are the way to go if you can relocate the double sided stuff they use to stick it on. Otherwise you have black squares showin up on your taillights. Not super noticeable but if you're like me it'll bug you. Either covers or that tint that I've seen them put on project blackout from am. That looks like good stuff if you can get it on without bubbles. No sense in buying the whole new taillight

...and I don't like it. Black and Red looks good, Black and Maroon does NOT. IMO

Go for it. How do you guys do it? with the spray or the tint?

Any write ups on how to get a real good finish using a spray tint?

I took mine to a body shop and they painted/cleared them. Mine look just like the above ones with the reverse lights showing but mine are darker. Also had the side markers painted and the third brake light. Really makes the car.
