Front Sidemarker/Turnsignal Modification

I decided to make the front side marker lights flash with the turn signals. Very simple mod. Cut the ground wire from the marker lamps and connect them to the 12v+ flashing lead of the front turn signal/parking lamps.

When the headlamps/parking lamps are off, the side marker flashes with the front turn signal. When the headlamps/parking lamps are on, the side marker flashes alternately with the front turn signal.

This is a tried and true method GM has used for decades to make the front side markers flash with a turn signal.

This will work on any year Mustang 68 and up except the 84-86 SVO and 87-04 Mustang. It will work on many other makes and models too as long as there is a dedicated front sidemarker only bulb.

How did you make the connection from the sidemarker to the turn signal? Electrical connectors of some sort? I'm good with a wrench but know nothing about electrical. Thanks!

Forgot all about that hook up. Always did that on the Gold Wing motorcycles we rode over the years.... Now, I guess I have some tinkering to do.

I cut the ground wire at the marker light socket and crimped on a new short length of wire which I ran up to the turn signal socket. I simply used a scotchlock connector to tap into the turn signal wire.

Yes it's a virtually free and easy mod. I did not have to do it but I thought the alternating turn signaling was interesting to look at with a bonus of attracting more attention for safety.

I always wondered how that worked. I didn't realize you can ground to the turn signal feed like that.

thanks for posting!

It works because the dual filament bulb in the turn signal/parking lamp shares the same ground for both filaments so the side marker light always finds it's ground through the filament not in use. Polarity alternates in the side marker bulb depending on whether the turn signal or parking lamps are illuminated.
