Well, I made a big mistake tonight. Pulling up to the Chili's ToGo parking spot I rolled a little to far, the curb was just the right height, and The middle of the splitter ground into it. Haven't had the car very long, still getting used to the sight lines.

So...I'm guessing I know the answer, but just in case, has anyone found a good method for at least reducing the visability of a scuff? Thanks in advance...never thought her first scuff or scratch would be from me...

A sand/polish would diminish the scuff, but would also smooth the texture to a degree - If you could blend it, it would be best, but if you're not comfortable doing it, I'd let a shop or someone experienced have a look at it.

There is a kit called Micro-Mesh polishing kit which has about twelve different grit pads (from like 600 to 12000) which conform to curved shapes better as opposed to sandpaper. It's about $15 and you can find them on eBay. Personally, I have some of those kits and have polished plastics smooth, not textured like that piece - I would start very warily and check the progress as I go and stop if it isn't working.

Maybe you could get by with some Mothers Back to Black as it would mask the scuff somewhat if you could gently get those dangling pieces off.

That's all I can think of - I hope someone else has a better suggestion besides replacement.

 

Thanks for the help, I tried back to black and it didn't help much. I'll try the sanding to get rid of the pieces sticking off and to try and blend the parts that are lighter from being stretched. It'll still show, but it will look better. I'll post some after pics when I get it sanded.

 

Instead of sanding the chunks off, you might try slicing them off with a razor. This would prevent the surrounding texture from getting damaged.
