I've been meaning to ask this for a while. After I had my Roush extreme springs put on there has been a subtle creeking sound coming from the fronts. More profound when hotter outside. I hear it over speed bumps and other random bumps at slow speeds only. This isn't the thunk/popping sound others have reported, I had that too but it disappeared when the Roush's went on go figure. But my question is, is this common? Was something tightened too much? I've had other lowered cars and know some issues are to be expected, but this is annoying at the least. Is there a simple fix or just deal with it? I'm still on the stock shocks n struts too.

1- check the strut mounts foe access play, also on my old civic i had several "dead springs" and those strings resting on each other causing a creeking sound when they rubbed together over a small bump, the easiest way that i know to eliminate options is to spray some white lithium grease on the top of the springs to see if they are rubbing, then try the strut mount, i know on some springs they come with a rubber insulator that goes between the springs to dampen any rubbing noises..

There's a TSB for bad LCA bushings; Lots of people having the exact issue. Dealer replaced both of my LCAs & bushings. Lots of threads about it.

The "clunking" is actually a quicker version of the deep squeak that happens during faster movement of the LCA, but spuds like a clunk because it happens so fast. It took me a week or so to discern. The drawn out squeak is likely the same cause.

 

Thanks guys. I was going to try spraying something this weekend. I've read about the tsb, didn't think it was that b/c it only started after the spring install. The roush springs have a rubber coating on the top half of the spring, I thought that might have something to do with it. I surprisingly don't have the clunk anymore either, well at least I don't hit speed bumps like I used to. If it is related to the tsb, will they fix it since I technically voided my suspension warranty?

 

Ford wouldn't touch my LCA's due to the springs Wouldn't even look at em' to see if it COULD be a problem

 

i read somewhere else that the upper strut mount was causing the sound.

 

I think thats where it's coming from too.

 

In light of all the complaining lately, just thought I'd report that my creaking sound has went away. Oddly enough, I think it was the heat causing the rubber surrounding the front Roush springs to bind up against the strut mounts. Now that it's been cooler this last week I no longer hear it.

 

My front springs used to creak after I put them on, it's completely gone away now too.
