Altec Show-N-Go Electric Retractable License Plate Bracket

I ordered the Altec Show-N-Go Electric Retractable License Plate Bracket
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khzkAgs5GVY ) before I even bought the Mustang. In this video it is shown on a 2008 GT with the previous body style (I have a 2011 GT Premium). I want mine to be just like the one in the video.

The problem is on my car the plastic front air dam is in the way where I want to install the plate. I have seen a lot of DIY threads on other cars online (Nissans and Mazdas) that simply cut a section out of the air dam, but none were on Mustangs.

Mine is the Black car on the left. I seriously do not want a butt ugly front plate like the Kona car, with hole drilled right in my cars "face" but I am also worried about compromising the aerodynamics underneath my Mustang GT.

Does any one know how much of a negative effect cutting a license plate length section out of the center of the front air dam under the bumper would have on my cars aero?

Or has anyone else installed this device on a 2010+ Mustang that has some tips for me?

Thanks guys

I have one of these on my '05 Saleen...I like it a lot. Much better than having to stare at that front plate all the time.

Even if someone had taken a chunk out of the air dam, how are they supposed to know how much it actually would affect it aerodynamically? It's not like someone has done this and then taken it to a wind tunnel to test it out. Not trying to sound rude or anything, but that's probably a bit of a difficult question for anyone here to answer.

Thats odd reading through some of the other threads on here one would be led to think this board was loaded with car experts and physicists galore.

So basically you are saying that no one here knows what the air dam does or how much it does? Hmmm seems like there is at least some kind of answer (or opinion) for just about everything else imaginable here. I find it hard to believe I have stumped themustangsource lol

To illustrate what I am talking about, this is the section of the front air dam I am talking about;

I would be cutting out the section outlined in RED. Does any body know if this will have a noticeable or at all considerable effect on the car at high speeds? That's all I am basically asking here.

IIRC that piece wasn't even on the 2010s. Why not just remove it all together?

Or use the no drill Craigs Custom Mustang bracket and not cut anything

I already bought the electric one form Altec. I want a remote control plate not one that has to be removed manually.

that part down there is meant to keep the wind and debris from entering the engine bay from below. It helps keep your engine clean from dirt and water. I clean my engine bay only once a month now, vs my last stang every week. The engine stays cleaner longer with that shield in place. I wouldnt go cutting a hole in it.

Interesting. I knew I would get a useful answer if I waited long enough. Thank you very much for this, I was leaning away from cutting a hole in it and now I def wont.
