2013 Convertible Owners: Tonneau Cover
2013 Convertible Owners: Tonneau Cover
I was wanting to add a boot tonneau cover such as this one in the following link:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/3dcarbon-mu.../p2022111.jcwx
Unfortunately I cannot find one. I emailed one company and they state it does not fit the 2013. Can anyone confirm this truly does or does not fit. I am not certain that there is a limitation or no one has tested it on a 13. I am about to have custom stripes painted and wanted to get this and paint it to match the car and the stripes.
About to take delivery and take to body shop. I would hate to have to get a tonneau cover later and have to paint separately from the car.

Have you looked at CJ Pony Parts? They show one that they claim fits a 2013.

And here is another from Mustangs Unlimited.

The second one listed is the same one I linked to from a different vendor. I see they have it listed as 2005-2013. I emailed American Muscle and they stated it won't fit. I hate getting conflicting information.
I am ready to order it, but hate to have to potentially send it back if there is an issue. At least it would be on them since they advertise it for the 2013. So I am comfortable ordering it from them.
Myfins1, yes the 3D Carbon Tonneau cover will fit your 2013. Ford changed nothing about the way the top sits and the body panel, wheel opening and mouldings have remained essentiall unchanged since 2010 (actually that part since 2005). I have one of these on my 2011 and I personally love it. You can e-mail 3D Carbon directly if you don't believe me. They are very helpful folks! Everyone else are just distributors and go by the text which gets updated whenever they get around to it.
I am going with painted on double 12" stripes. Bumper to bumper including the small area above windshield. The large stripes will be the 2013 Candy Apple Red (the metallic red not race red) that is available on the mustang. It will be separated with a 1-2" gap between them. I am putting an accent color on the outside of the large stripes. It was going to be 3/4-1" and touching the red and it will be silver. Additionally I am going to put a stripe down the rocker and accent it with silver on top and bottom as well.
I am painting the tonneau cover to match the black on the car as well as the striping so it looks like the stripes continue on into the interior. And then pop that chrome like pony back onto the tonneau cover over those painted on stripes. The red stripes will tie in well with the red brick leather interior.
Additionally I am rebadging the 5.0 on front fender to the high output 302 badge. I am adding the chrome mustang letters across the rear deck lid as well.
I am also contemplating powder coating my wheels to be a metallic red color as well. This would conclude visual exterior mods.
Performance mods I am planning include Borla Atak exhaust. I may add the boss style side exhaust. A CAI and a tuner. I'm looking at a wireless one that interfaces with iPhone.
The final piece to my puzzle includes putting in an extreme sound system. It will be Boston acoustic pro subs, 2-12's in trunk in custom fabricated fiberglass enclosures built in place. Likely in corners of trunk by tail lamps. 2-8's modified to fit into doors. 2 sets of 6.5" pro components for front and rears. Likely a baffle for mids and tweets in rears. I may mount front tweeters in pillars or somewhere other than door. So 4 subs total and 2 pair of components. All this will be powered by 4 old school Orion xtreme amps. An xtreme 1400 for rear subs. 2 275sx for components (1 for front & back). And I have yet to get another for the front subs. Maybe an xtreme 800. TBD. Debating keeping the factory nav/stereo vs going with a kenwood dnx9990hd withe the new sync compatibility. I think that may be best.
I plan to paint the xtreme amp heat sink shells the candy apple red as well. My dilemma is deciding the fiberglass work in trunk. Do I carpet or paint. Thought about doing some red in trunk or maybe just the black. The more I think about it, I'm leaning toward carpet to match trunk and do the painting on amps only for visual effects.
I also need to address electrical. Likely a beefed up alternator with caps and or yellow top battery.
I think that will complete what I really want to do for a while.

Sound like you have thought this out pretty well! I bought the most base 2011 out there and have added so much in the past year to it to make it just the way I want it to be inside and out. It has been my project car and I will enjoy these mods for a very long time! I have a lot of pics on my profile albums if you want to check them out. I have thought about doing the same with my tonneau - painting it the color of the car and continuing the stripe over it but the basic black goes really well with the rest of the car
PS: Do you have the 6 Speed Stick?

I do like the cursive mustang logo on your drivers side dash above the glove box. How big is it? I would like to add that. I was looking at badges last night @ macsautoparts.com. They dont list the size. I was going to put the High Output 302 in place of the 5.0 badge. I am now thinking of adding the cursive mustang logo above that and place the high output 302 badge centered right beneath the cursive mustang. I also saw the FORD hood letters. I am considering this as well but have not seen any pictures with that on the hood. I may just buy the badges and lay them in place on the hood and see how I like them.
I see the tri bar pony badges you have on your doors. How is it attached? Is it just a stick on badge? I would like to see more pics of your tonneau cover from the center of car but above. In a manner taken from center just above the head rests angled down toward your tonneau cover.
Your car is looking awesome. I love on your rocker stripes how the outside pin stripe goes full circle around on the rear. I have been contemplating having the silver accent touch the red strip or have a small 1/4"-1/2" black space between the red and silver.
So many decisions! Not much time to make them. I am going to be ordering the tonneau cover and hopefully have it in the shop within 2 weeks of taking delivery to get all the painting completed.

Thanks for the compliments
I love this "Project" car! The Mustang script was bought on ebay (about $8.00) and is 5.5" across. They have larger but, not sure about small sizes. Colors are available.
Regarding the tribars, they were from Scott Drake and are aluminum reproductions. They are supposed to attach with automotive double-sided tape but I decided to try something different since they would be over the stripe and are now attached by magnetic tape
On for over a year now and never moved or fallen off (actually scared to pull them off in case the vinyl stripe has stained). This was in a size between the enormous tribars currently used on the fenders and the smaller ones used in the '95-'04 Mustangs (I have a pair gracing my interior door panel inserts).
I have attached a few more pics of the tonneau. You will like the way this piece looks
So much nicer than the factory boot cover but the downside is you need to be able to stash it someplace if it rains because it won't fit in the trunk. I have removed it and put the top up with it catty corner in the interior but just a little bulky.
If you have a stick, I have to recommend any aftermarket short throw shifter and shift burshing. I have the AM one with the Steeda bushing and the shfiter is precise and assuring.
The factory set up is really weak and after a few months really becomes noticable.

I went ahead and ordered the tonneau cover. I got it from www.carid.com but through their eBay page. I got it for $470 shipped. The cheapest I could find it shipped. It has already arived at the local terminal and I will pick it up on Monday. I am taking it and the car to the body shop on Tuesday to get my quote. I will be going by the fiberglass installer Tuesday as well.
It will likely go to fiberglass shop first for the sub enclosure/amp rack. Then to the body shop for all the painting and rebadging. And then back to the stereo installer to have all the stereo equipment installed with dynamat.
I still need to order a few things for the badging and the sound system. And then onto the exhaust, CAI, and a tune module.

Guardian Wind Deflector
Hi Dr! This is a prototype of my own design wind deflector
I am trying to see if there is enough interest in going into production but, so far not enough for an initial production run. My prototype came in at $300 but with a run of 40 the price would drop to about $250. I am very happy with it and it works like a champ! I like the fact that you can still use the back seat for baggage or people (people get really blown away back there )
In the front, it is smooth sailing with little wisps to the rear only! The unit is held in place with two quick release straps and it stows easily in the trunk. It keeps the car warm in the winter (I drive top down year round) but, in the summer the airflow partially directs around the side of the seats so it stays comfortable while driving
PM me if you want some more information and I can probably get a one of made for you if interested.
