2012 Hood deflector - Does it work?

I was wondering if anyone is using this Ford accessory hood deflector. If so, any likes or dislikes with it?

Part No: 5R3Z-16C900-AA, cost is around $70-80

If it reduces the amount of bugs on the windshield then I would get one.

Yeah, I agree and sure would like to see one in person.

The deflector looks a bit different on the American Muscle site, especially on the customers side view pic:

Just say NO to the deflector. 3M clear bra is a much better option.

silverstate777,

I hear ya, the hood reflector isn't the pretties thing. Although, I think some will benefit a LOT more then others. In this area of PA, we don't have too bad of bug issues splatting on your hood/windshield. However, if you drive an hour to two south to Maryland (where we go to the drag strip sometimes) there's a TON of bugs. I always bring my car back with a massacre on my hood/windshield. If I lived in that area, I would definitely buy one of these!

Ill post a pic of one in a week or two. Was originally going to get one with delivery of my car but thought it would break up the flow of the hood. I just ordered one though because Ive decided against a clear bra. Had the clear bra for a few years and its more noticeable than Id hoped. If I could do the whole hood, maybe, but now youre talking big $. Instead I decided to incorporate a partial bra into a hood graphic and cap it with the deflector. Will report back on pros & cons. Just waiting for the deflector to arrive and to get my car back from the shop. Stupid cow in a Buick dinged my quarter & door, her fault.

Ok, it finally came in. Heres a few pics but note that it still has the wrap on it which is why it looks all scuffed.

Not exactly what I was expecting (I ordered without pics) as this looks almost like a bra but I think it will go well with my graphic plans so Im rolling with it. Now I just need my ride back...

P.S. This is for a '13 hood; just realizing the thread was for a '12 though Im sure theyre pretty similar.

Not as bad as I thought it would look. Like you said though, not for everyone. It definitely matches the wheels, tint, and grille though. Send in a pic as soon as your hood stripe is done. I'm curious to see the finished product.

Kind of pointless if it doesn't protect the top of the painted grille surround.

Here's the deflector with the graphic, but there are half-a-dozen issues with the vinyl so theyll be redoing it in a couple days.

Ha ha, Itake it your not a fan. Its basically RTR's + stripes but they didnt get the panel right yet. And thats gloss but not waxed. And its a DD so Im getting some protection with the vinyl and the deflector. And it needed some black but I didnt want to copy Boss vents. Im digging it.

The thing I hated with one on my F150 is it also deflected the wind so the windshield washers wouldn't squirt on the windshield.

I don't think it looks bad. It's not my thing but that's the best thing about customization is that the owner is the only one that has to be happy w it. I definitely dig the color scheme and think it would look better w the black hood vents though. Hopefully I can start getting my wish list fulfilled once I get back from my vacation I am saving up for. I can't justify spending $ on my car when we are taking my boys to go see "the mouse" out in Orlando. Happiest Place On Earth my a$$.

Thanks, was originally going to paint them, but wanted a little more black on the hood. Thought about stripes to set off the vents instead, then saw RTR's graphic, but didnt like the thin side stripes, so combined the two ideas, then stumbled across the deflector. Will report back on that BTW. So far so good, kept a few bird bombs off the paint.

Lol, good luck! I spent 1/2 my honeymoon at Disney with the kids and 1/2 at Niagara Falls. I cant think of a sappier pair of places to go on a honeymoon, but at least I got to drive my first stang there and back.

Not as bad as first thought either. Looks unique and nice mix with the wheels and tint.
