How did you tint the rear lights? I wanted to do this but I wasn't sure how easy the install is. What's the %?

It's a somewhat thick vinyl tint (mine was from stangmods, but AM has it cheaper)...and it was smoked, I think black out looks awesome, but I don't want to give a cop anymore reason to pull me over. It just takes some patience, but is not hard to do. It's already pre-cut, you just have to stretch it a little to cover the tailight completely.

Steps I used:
- Clean tailights with a solution of warm water and 3 drops of baby shampoo.
- Use blow dryer to heat vinyl, which makes it easier to stretch b/c the tint won't be perfect.
- Unpeal tint from backing and spray back of vinyl and tailight with soapy solution.
- Position vinyl over tailight as best as possible.
- I had my wife constantly use the blow dryer to keep the vinyl warm and stretchable while I pushed all the solution out from under the tint using the included squegee and stretching it to the edges of the tailight tint.
- If you have bubbles still in there after you finish, they should disappear after sitting in the sun for a couple of days (a little longer if it's cold outside)

It's not that hard and if you mess up and hate it, you can always pull it off.

Looks great!!

Now you gotta get those ugly red and yellow sidemarkers changed over to clear or smoke or black.

Check out this groupbuy that Overboost is working on here

Looks good bud. I've been considering using VHT to lightly smoke all my lights in my 06....

I like yours though, most one's I see with pre cut vinyl seem too dark.

Love the look of the tinted taillights. But I am always worried about the how legal it is. All I need is some asshat to rearend me on the highway. And have them sue me for having tinted lights and claiming its my fault.

Check your state and local laws on this. I know in colorado the reflector has to be visible from something like 300 feet.

Best way to do this is wait until night and take a flash camera the specified distance away and shoot the rear. If the reflector lights up you should be legal.

But, definitely check first, I'm sure each state is different.

I have tried to look it up. But could not find any specifics on the law. If anyone know what the laws for NYS and NYC are Please let me know where to find it.

Thanks

From section 375(2) of the New York traffic code.

http://law.onecle.com/new-york/vehic...T0375_375.html

3. if manufactured on or after January first, nineteen hundred
fifty-two, at least two lighted lamps on the rear, one on each side,
which lamps shall display a red light visible from the rear for a
distance of at least one thousand feet; and
4. if required to display a number plate on the rear, a white light
which shall illuminate the numerals on such plate in such manner as to
render such numerals legible for at least fifty feet from the rear. The
provisions of this subparagraph shall also apply to trailers.

So as long as your tail lamps are visible at night from a distance of 1000 feet, you are fine. I believe this refers to the running lamp as opposed to the brake lights.

Thanks.

I wonder if someone has tested how far back these can be seen.

I guess the worst case would be to buy it and if it does pass just take it off.

Maybe the OP wouldnt mind doing a test to see if it works?

Thanks again.

Toning the red down looks good. Nice call.
I painted mine over a year ago and it's still sharp as hell. So it's a worthy mod.

You may as well do the rear quarter and front ambers

Hello to a fellow South Carolinian!

Mine looks very similar to yours...I have not done the tail light tint though...but it is on the list now that I have seen yours.

Yeah, I have stangmods custom cutting some for my front ambers since they don't have any yet and will be getting the ones for the rear too. Can't wait...it should like nice. Now I just need to darken the wheels a bit (I wish they came more of a gunmetal/anthracite color, than bright silver)

Just got the tint for the front side markers from stangmods...they sent me smoked tint, but you can see the amber color in the daylight, so I would go black-out for these. I'm going to see if they can send me some black out for both front and rear side markers.
