13 GT to 13 GT500 defuser/mufflers project

after waiting for almost 2 months i finally got the defuser and mufflers in after being back ordered. the problem is... mufflers were both damaged so ill have to wait on a new pair, maybe another 2 weeks.

Defuser is the biggest challenge tho, the mufflers can wait.

This will likely be a slow process as ill have to order some more clips for the defuser and everything will have to be marked perfectly for the new defuser holes. After i removed the GT reflectors and the black trim piece in the middle, i was hoping that at least a pair of a holes will line up to go by, but i think ill have to eye ball it all. I napped in the reflectors from the GT into the defuser and even tho hardly fit, some trimming will be required on the back of the reflectors to make them fit a little better.

I do not want to spend $700 on a new GT500 rear bumper so my DIY skills will have to really step it up here in order to not mess things up and not having to buy a new bumper LOL ... not to mention the bottom section will need to be trimmed here and there to make the defuser fit good and obviously a trim around the muffler tips, but i think that can be done later, well see.

here are a few pics for now till i get some more time to mess around

Hopefully my Boss diffuser project is less scary. That'll be in a week or two. Good luck, subbing for updates and more pictures.

isnt the 2010-2012 gt500 rear bumper and defuser same as the regular 10-12 GT ?

i dont think its easier, it might be the same cup of tea, i just checked out a boss at the dealer and i think the boss, CS and the GT500 might use the same type of rear bumper for the defusers to go on there, where is the GT rear bumper dont have a defuser of any sort so there are no mounting holes for anything and has to be custom made.

Yeah I thought he could have done a better job around the exhaust openings but it wasn't a horrible first effort. Gives the rest of us wanting to attempt it a bit of a jumping off point at least.

I keep going back and forth about which diffuser I want. Boss seems like less work and more exhaust choices. GT500 more sexy.....decisions decisions....

According to him all the middle mounting tabs fit perfectly, the only issue was there were no slotted tabs around the exhaust tips.. I'm going to create the tabs. He chose to cut them off and utilize a different way to attach the diffuser there.

This is exactly what I was waiting for for someone to finally try the 13 GT500 with quad axle. Too bad my GT500 axle back (non quad) is coming in today from AM. I knew I should have waited. I will be keeping my eyes on your project op.

on the GT500 defuser none of the tabs line up, but cutting them off is also prob not a good idea cuz the defuser might flight of with the winder under the car grabing it, while the defuser is being held by minimal amount of tabs. ill use all the tabs, it will just be tough getting all perfect holes for them all. it will take some time im sure.

Double sided tape is often used to attach trim. Just an idea.

Couple of small bolts for good measure would maybe be a good idea. You would hate to do all that work and be hitting triple digits and have it go flying off.

Agreed. Just fold those 2 tabs back and secure with a plastic push pin. Look under an 11-12 GT diffuser for reference. Those tabs not only secure but keep the thing straight during temperature changes.

You may already have the holes in the frame of your car. Trust me. Don't cut those two middle tabs off.

Good idea about tape for the exhaust tips.

Installed my Boss 302 diffuser just now...

All the tabs in the middle do pop on. So that is a headache saver, however, it's evident that the boss/cs and gt500 bumpers hang about an inch lower on the outer edge of the exhaust tips. I see your diffuser has the same gap.

Also agree on leaving all the underbody tabs intact. They are all there on my car. However in my case I'll have to try either a different pushpin or a nut and bolt for my middle tab w/ two holes as I broke the little pushpins on mine and the pushpins I have are just a hair small.

You can get a whole bag of various sizes of push pins from NAPA for less than 5 bucks. They are called nylon retainers or Christmas tree fasteners. Lol if you go there. Don't buy from ford though... They will charge you a couple of bucks each pin.
