I have canned tunes.

Dunno. As I said, it did it before I even installed the shorties.

Hello Joerg, I just installed the X-Pipe with Cats today, hoping that it might solve the problem. Of Course I unhooked the battery during the install. This change of the exhaust didn't make a difference. I have the Stock tune still, I am getting a tuner next week and I will put on a custom tune and see what the difference is that it makes. I am going to take it to a local shop tomorrow and have them read the codes if there are any and clear them if they can. This is really frustrating, I even put the original throttle Body back on to see if this might be the problem, no change. Thanks for the advice on the Custom tune, I was thinking about this from the beginning, but the upgrades I have made up to this point all said "No Tune Required". Except for the Cats being removed with the Off Road X-Pipe, this definitely requires you to turn off the back O2 sensors to get rid of the CEL. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

Hey John, with that list of mods you definitely need a custom setup. You changed the airflow that much in all phases that the stock setup is totally off. I am not an engine pro but the way I understand the effects of each single mod and the sum of yours, your engine is running way too lean. The ecu is only capable of changes to a certain amout.
Mine started with surging and missfiring with just a small error in the MAF value. Be careful, that could cause some damage!

Well, I went to the Dealer today and they said it looks like Bad fuel, especially since this started happening after I filled up about a week ago. I will use 93 on my next fill up and see if this really is the cause.

I am going to get a Tuner next week and I think, like you said. It will make a big difference. Won't be driving to much until then.

well, i've been watching for it and i think it's not quite the same thing. I will have an occasional drop in rpm and it picks right back up to normal rpms but no surge above idle.

although, it could be that the computer responds more aggressively to a drop in rpm during idle when you have LTs.

Well, I just got the new Tuner. An SCT X4, really nice. tells you everything, But it hasn't stopped the surging Idle problem. I am waiting for my Custom Tunes to come from the Company, and then hopefully it will fix it. The basic tune for the V6 doesn't change that much. I tried to increase the Idle to 900, didn't stop the surging. The Air/Fuel gauge fluctuates between 10 and 20. Could the O2 sensors be the culprit? Read a little bit about this also in the forums.

My suspicion would be either an o2 or maf. However, I'm by no means an authority. You may just need to take it to the dealer to have them look at it. You can always call the service dept and describe the issue; it may be something they've seen before.

This is my next step, I have to put the standard tune back on first, then maybe they can see something that I can't. Hopefully something simple. The Car isn't even a year old yet. oh well, live and learn. I'll let you know if something repairable shows up with the dealer.

I have the same issue with dropping RPMs when in neutral. And I do not have any aftermarket headers. The only thing I have engine wise is an air intake and axle back exhaust. But my '14 has been doing this before either of the above mods. I too thought that it was bad fuel. The next time I have it at the dealership I will have them take note of it and check it out. In the mean time I'm listening........

Hello stpolo, I haven't had any luck with any of the changes I have attempted to correct the problem. Finally found a shop that has the equipment to see what the engine is doing (in Europe, so not so easy). So far it looks like the MAF may be bad. Got some good advice about CAI's and Throttle Bodies also. Basically don't use them, the MAF is not able to work with them, without a really good tune (not the canned tunes from the various companies). These changes cause the problems with how the MAF works, and sends bad info to the engine for the Air/Fuel mixture. It looks like in my case the MAF may have been damaged itself. which can cause several problems, back firing, burnt valves, erratic idle. I am hoping my engine has not suffered to much from this mistake. the shop is going to replace the MAF tomorrow and we will see if this is the main cause for the engine running as it is. If not, we will go further. Last time I do something like this to an engine. Not worth the small gain in performance.

Ok, after all of this time and frustration as to what could be causing this Surging Idle problem, it has all come down to the O2/Lambda Sensors. This was not discovered by me, but by the very diligent and relentless Technician/Mechanic that took on the task of finding the problem, no matter what. Only one of the sensors was bad, and by swapping it from left to right, he was able to duplicate the problem that was occurring on the left bank to the right bank. This damage to the sensor probably occurred when I installed the Long Tube Headers, it took a while for it to fail to the point of causing the Surging Idle problem. I am still going to replace the MAF, Since I have already ordered it, and the Tech said it was a good idea, since it still may have suffered some damage from the Cold Air Intake and the Throttle Body being different in size and design. Hopefully this helps someone who is having similar problems with their idle. Even if it is new and you think it is not the problem, you have to eliminate the various sensors as the problem or it may cost you a lot of money in shop costs for repairs that are not necessary. I learned my lesson.
