Should I get a tune?
Should I get a tune?
My car just arrived from the states, I gonna drive it to Hamburg next weekend. Since 95 octane is pretty much standard over here (not all the stations have 91 any more) I am considering getting a tune...
Or will the engine calibrate itself so it will run on 95? I only ran 87 in the states...

Thanks for the heads-up, didn't know about the different US / EU octane ratings...
So if I go by this http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259770 , I can assume that Euro 95 is app. US 91?
Would you recommend getting a tune for that?

Like most modern cars, the Mustang has a knock-sensor that will retard the ignition if it senses a low octane fuel.
I'd only get a tune if you were to also buy a CAI that requires a re-map for best results

The CAI won`t flow anymore air on the V6, save your money and just get the tune !

The CAI will give you more air. It has helped me personally a lot and i have a V6 too. I also have a chip in my car with a bezel for switching between tunes while driving. The Chip helps so much! On Saturday (02/06/2010) I was heading down the highway in my 1998 V6 coupe and it was wet outside and my friend requested to see what the switch bezel was for so I punched the gas at 2300 rpm in first gear and when I shifted into second gear at 4800 rpm my car started tail whipping from side to side like crazy! The tires keep spinning at 4000 rpm for about 20 seconds and then it finally caught grip at about 65 mph. That was really impressive for my car, I know the tires will chip and make my car slide sometimes on dry pavement when shifting but with the chip and CAI you have to drive my car with caution now
I know some newer cars such as yours you will need a chip for the CAI because the original computer sometimes doesn't recognize the CAI and your car will run strange. The tuners have many options such as year, Intake, gears, engine, etc. You should buy the Livewire or X3 and you can program it from a handheld device. So, if you buy this tuner and later buy Gears you can tell you car that you now have new gears and it can adjust your vehicle to work with them and many other upgrades. Many tuners are at Americanmuscle.com.
